Appearance

Fauna is the spiritual embodiment of animals, and as such, can take the form of any animal naturally in Arethil. They have full control over their appearance so long as it is within the natural bounds of the chosen species.

Skills and Abilities

Shapeshifter
Fauna can take the form of any animal naturally in Arethil (including humanoids). This does not include animals or beings brought from other planes of existence, such as demons, or non-animal entities, such as other spirits. While in a specific form Fauna takes on the complete physical characteristic of that animal, including complete anatomy and physiology. As such, they are bound by the physical limitations and requirements of each form. For example, a cat must eat meat to sustain itself whereas a butterfly needs nectar.

It takes no magical energy to sustain a chosen form (provided that Fauna eat and drink appropriately), but it does require magical energy to switch to a new form. The larger and more powerful the new form the more energy it requires. In general, Fauna can switch forms roughly ten times per day, somewhat more if the chosen animals are small and weak, somewhat fewer if the chosen animals are large and strong.

Fauna does not take on any magical or non-physical traits of any form. While they may assume the form of a particular sorcerer or magical creature, this does not grant them any magical abilities of said creature (unless the abilities are purely physiologic).

Telepathic Speech
Most animal forms are incapable of speech, and Fauna can communicate telepathically with others to get around this limitation.

Weaknesses

As a spirit, Fauna is vulnerable to any magic or wards that specifically target spirits or magical entities. Their strength is also drawn from the natural world, and should it be destroyed, Fauna is likely to vanish with it.

Personality

Having spent most of their time secluded in deep forest, Fauna is most at home amongst animals and generally behaves in accordance with whichever form they assume. However, they are by and large gentle, thoughtful, and inquisitive. The few travelers that made it deep enough to reach Fauna’s main territory were observed with curiosity and often helped to return where they came from. The one thing Fauna will not tolerate is destruction or damage of nature. They harshly punish those who clear forests for wood or farmland, poaching/overhunting, and general abuse of natural ecosystems.

Biography and Lore

Fauna spent millennia within the deepest parts of Falwood, existing as a guardian over the animal inhabitants. In recent centuries, however, environmental damage has reached new levels, and Fauna has felt the forests shrink. In an effort to understand this new threat, Fauna has ventured out of the deep forests and into the greater world of Arethil. They seek to understand the new civilizations and societies that are pushing into the natural world. Their intentions are largely based on curiosity and a desire for peaceful coexistence. However, Fauna is also prepared to defend the natural world should the people of Arethil push too aggressively and too far.
