Elinyra Derwinthir
Appearance
Elinyra is average height and build for an elf, with green eyes and long black hair, and a warm terra cotta skintone. The parts of her body afflicted by the blight show a rough, blackened bark-like skin: early on this shows only as a strange scar on the palm of her right hand, but later spreads up her right arm, shoulder and over the right side of her face.
Skills and Abilities
Early timeline:
Druidic Training: Elinyra possesses the powers typical of someone with druidic training, including sensing her environment through plants and animals, speaking with animals, healing, communing with plants (e.g. as an entanglement spell), and communing with spirits that may or may not aid her cause depending on their own whims.
Yew Bow/Staff: Elinyra carries a yew staff that she can warp at will into a bow, and vice-versa. It functions as a normal bow or staff.
Blighted Thorn Whip: When threatened or stressed, Elinyra can manifest a thorn-covered, whip-like vine from her blighted hand. It acts for all purposes like a normal whip, though it is strong enough to resist being severed by most weapons and inflicts necrotic damage to living things that are pierced by its thorns. Using this ability further spreads the blight.
Sensitivity to blight and death: The source of the blight within Elinyra is sensitive to certain types of energy (necromancy and blight), responding in various unpleasant ways.
As Elinyra's condition progresses, the blight corrupts her powers and alters them in various ways. As the blight grows stronger, she gains the following abilities to the exclusion of those listed above (Except the staff, which is an item and not a power).
Life Sense: Rather than relying on a connection with plants and animals, Elinyra can sense life energy around her in its various forms, as well as other creatures harboring the same variety of blight she carries.
Death's Touch: Elinyra can no longer heal, but instead can drain lifeforce from living beings, effectively weakening normal mortal beings while healing herself. (With the noted exception of a short period of time when Elinyra was unable to properly control this ability)
Reaper's Shroud (thanks Guild Wars!): Elinyra can no longer hear the voices of the spirits nor commune with them. However, she can focus her own life energy, or that gathered from other living things, into a shadowy cloak that obscures her features and absorbs enemies' attacks, so long as she can maintain a steady influx of life energy or funnel her own.
Blight Scythe: Replacing the vine whip, Elinyra now manifests a scythe with a blade of focused death energy. Though the blade itself is immaterial, it can affect the physical world like one or simply sever the souls of unfortunate red-shirt npcs. They ded.
Blight & Death Manipulation: Elinyra's ability to manipulate plants has become limited to those affected by the blight or recently dead. However, she no longer needs to seek permission from the spirits to do this as she would have as a druid.
Personality
Elinyra is usually a quiet and thoughtful peacemaker, though a series of violence and tragedy hardens her and lends her a grim pragmatism. She struggles with a personal sense of despair, especially as she continually fails to prevent the spread of the blight through her body and mind.
Since becoming an exile, Elinyra has a tendency to keep allies and acquaintances alike at arms' length. Sometimes it is to protect herself, sometimes it is to protect them from her. She becomes even more distant and absorbed in the past once the blight starts to strongly present itself.
