Biography and Lore:
The Iron Fortress is located between the rugged mountains of the Spine and the city of Bathairk. It's ruled by a xenophobic king who hates and bans all magic. The king found the best defense against the magic within the area was iron. For whatever reason, iron seems to suppress the elemental magic of the surrounding elves and other groups that use it nearby. But only within the fortress walls.
It was rumored that once, long ago, it wasn't always like this. There was peace and magic was as common as buying bread in the marketplace. Humans prior to the iron fortress lived in harmony with their neighbors. Some thought the peace ended due to a series of tragedies occurring within the royal family. Others thought the elves started a war. Regardless, the time of peace and lawful magic has long passed.
Princess Eislyn grew up in a loving but strict household. She and her younger sister were never allowed outside of the fortress walls. She was taught to be suspicious of magic and all creatures besides humans. But unlike her father, the king of the fortress, she didn't hate them. She was intrigued by them. Who wouldn't be with the stories and legends? Folk creating fire from their fingers? Making a storm come on a cloudless day?
And Eislyn's mother had a lot to do with that intrigue. Before her mother's disappearance, she accompanied the queen on a goodwill visit just at the outer wall. There was a group of elves that needed food. Knowing the law, the queen still helped them and seemed to think it was important enough to show Eislyn.
Not long after, her mother disappeared and her sister became ill. Her father went into a rage and out of fear, forbade Eislyn to leave her room. But the young princess heard a rumor of something that might help her sister. Would she dare venture outside the Iron Fortress? Would she disobey her father and chance leaving her family in order to help them? And what if she learned she was more than she seemed?
