Born to parents of no noteworthy feats or position, Romeo was only shadowed by his older sister in his childhood. Romeo's sister was much smaller but much stronger than he, a possible outcome of a affair between his mother and a elf of unknown origins. While the village told of these rumors, his father did not treat his "daughter" any differently, but did find himself fading farther from his wife and his son. Romeo's village was near a kobold stronghold which was fortified with lizardfolk of some tribe. Yearly, the village was attacked, pillaged, and left to rebuild and begin anew. It wasn't till the reptiles went too far, massacring the entire village save Romeo who was saved by a group of knights who happened to be coming by.

Romeo was taken by the knights as a squire, learning the trade, and slowly training alongside many other squires to one day become a knight themselves. It was also unknown where these knights came from to Romeo, he was to young at the time to remember their names, nor did he care as he became older. Only one thing was clear to the boy, his became cold and removed from the world around him. Without garnishing a hatred towards the creatures, Romeo only wished that they had spared his sister as even though he was nothing compared to her, she was everything to him as she was who taught him many things that one needed to live and make a living.

When the knights realized Romeo had no real interest in valor, or honor, he was kicked out after being beat as punishment and not repenting for his attitude. Romeo later found them to be a zealot cult and that many of the squires who became knights were also tortured and brainwashed. The now teenager would go on to become a smith's helper, learning the trade of basic metal forging before moving on to a band of mercenaries who promised to further teach Romeo how to wield a sword.

Later on, he would find out that the group were actual bandits, and was forced to partake in evil acts in order to survive and continue his training among their best swordsmen. While he stayed with this group, they began to make a name for themselves and gained quite the bounty on their heads except for Romeo has he was never identified with the group as they used him as a scout before their brutal attacks on unsuspecting people and villages. Finally, when Romeo was a young man, he took blade to each of them at night in their sleep with the mindset to take the bounty for himself. The leader of this bandit group woke up to the screams of his dying man and the smell of his camp on fire. In a final duel, Romeo beheaded the leader, and was awarded the bounty.

Romeo started his new life as a sellsword, fighting for anyone who could afford him or interested him enough to accept a smaller fee.
