With years of martial experience and a serious and considered disposition which defies the tempestuous disposition of the orcs he was raised by, Dal is the consumate professional, at some expense to the luxuries of life. Dal is a stalwart and enduring warrior who has spent years defying his orcish heritage so that he may speak common in clear, smooth tones. His longsword has faced many foes and overcome them, his skills with the sword and his extensive training are his primary occupation. In the past he found himself employed as a mercenary, a bodyguard, and sometimes a duelist and champion when the situation allowed, but now resides as a member of the Knights of Anathaeum. Dal has no time for company that aggrandizes itself; Dal is a warrior who believes that merit, training and dedication are more powerful tools than braggadocio, fury and brute strength. Dal simply has the discipline to get the job done and stay alive, be it from using his longsword, his heavy crossbow, or powers of stern persuasion to prevent violence from erupting at all.

Appearance

Dal is six feet four and in peak physical condition, often committing to rigarous training regimes to keep in fighting shape, but in endurance, strength and techniques with the blade. He calm pale green eyes, shorter stubs of tusks and a clean shaven face. He walks with a quiet confidence and competency that can distinguish him from the rabble of warriors that he might find himself working with, or as is so often the case, against. Dal is stronger than most half-orcs, having trained himself to peak physical endurance and fitness so that he might survive the trials his mercenary life, and now duties with the knights of anathaeum leads him towards, and has no trouble wielding his longsword to cut down any man or beast that might engage him. He wears a blue cloak to protect him from the rain on long nights which also serves to conceal his numerous weapons. Dal sometimes carries a heavy crossbow to bring down far sturdier foes than his longsword could bring down with ease.

Skills and Abilities

Dal is a terrifyingly swift and efficient user of the longsword, wielding the two handed weapon with all the dignity, composure, confidence and mastery of any true knight of the realm. He has found himself toe to toe with some of the best fighters in the land and come out with his life intact due to his dedication to the way of the sword. Dal's natural strength lends him the power to cut through unarmoured opponents as a butcher might with slabs of meat, and his training allows him to fend off incoming blows with calm, measured strikes. Others might use brute strength to overcome their foes, but Dal uses his blade with a grace and self respect that has kept him alive for years on the field.

Dal also carries a heavy crossbow for bringing down foes at a distance which can bring down a charging boar without fear of feeling their tusks. The warrior's strength and dedication to training allows him to pull the intensely powerful drawstring back with a smoothness and efficiency that has allowed him to survive after the first shot as been fired.

He also carries a few throwing knives upon his back so that he might bring down unprepared foes quickly, and carries a rondel for piercing another armoured foe's heavy plate. He also bears a light warhammer for dealing with armoured foes, and when rondel and hammer are required for virtue of their speed.

Dal has spent years perfecting his voice so that it would not betray his orc heritage, and actually finds speaking in orcish difficult due to his dedication to sounding more sophisticated than his fellow orcish warriors. With a smooth and confident tongue Dal can command respect in some of the finer courts of the land, and has used this silver tongue to secure himself better pay, better jobs, and better bed and board than his fellow mercenaries in his former life.

Personality

Dal often finds himself at ends with the martial lifestyle with his countenance. While other warriors might be prone to wild bursts of emotion, joy at the end of a fight, exhilaration and laughter at an enemy's routing, or rawkous displays of boasting and storytelling at a feast, Dal is a far cooler and collected warrior. He embodies the consummate professional, never smoking tobacco for fear it would tarnish his ability to ply his trade with a blade, nor drinking to excess for fear of dulling his senses at a critical moment. The half-orc takes a pride in his disposition, viewing himself as one of the few elite in the world who doesn't have to justify where their boots have been to walk forward to meet a challenge.

Dal has few friends, but many moments of respect with his fellow warriors and employers. His disposition can seem chill and stand offish to some, with some whispering he has more in common with the dwarves than his own peoples, although few would ever say so to his face.

He has since found some solace and companionship with the Knights of Anathaeum, striving to prove himself worthy of their favour.

Biography & Lore

Raised by orcs for twenty years of his life, Dal found himself at odds with the crudeness of his tribe and set out to eek out a better existence in his eyes. Though accepted as a full orc by his people for his tenacity and effectiveness in combat, Dal shirked away from taking his place amongst his tribe in favour for pursuing mercenary work outside of the orc realms. The man's childhood was one of taking part in raiding parties and brutish orc traditions, while his early twenties was taking part in mercenary work with more human employers. Soon Dal carved something of a reputation amongst his fellow sellswords, and used what fortune he found to buy himself an ornate suit of armour which he still wears to this day. Dal found himself tagging along with adventurers, taking part in bitter sieges, striving to make a name as a bodyguard and sometimes stepping forward as a host's champion in single combat.

Injured and laid low by fierce orcish bandits, Dal was able to reach the Knights of Anathaeum's sanctuary, and recieve healing. Therein, he recovered, and was impressed by the caliber of the fighting class that called the place home. Resolved to fight with the best, and tired of his days of pursuing coin, Dal joined the squirely ranks of Anathaeum.
