The massive marshes begin practically at the spring of the river Iuk. Drawing on the glaciers and snow capes of the Spine, the river pours out of the rock and immediately negotiates a wide riverbed despite the hard stone. As soon as it hits the flatlands at the foot of the mountain range, the Iuk floods and branches off into a myriad channels and canals, eating through the soil like worms through flesh.
