Dwarven, I think. Though it does seem perhaps a little romantic for their kind? It is definitely a little strange and I am not convinced of its usefulness. Who knows their own heart well enough to keep it focused on just one thing for long enough to find it? The eccentric wizard Grangomelle

The elaborate compass appears to be made of silver. Whilst it does not appear to track north, its decorations have seen it kept as a trinket for decades before being purchased by the wizard Grangomelle. Recognising its magic, he discovered how it functioned. However, he was never able to make real use of the item.

The needle of the compass slowly - and often erratically - points towards the holder's current desire. Being easily distracted Grangomelle was never able to use it to find anything of true value. Its greatest success under his ownership was to find a missing teacup. Grangomelle very much enjoys his tea in the morning.
