Rumoured to be born during a prevalent forest fire which was also heavily rumoured to be caused by her father's drunken efforts to do
something involving debt collectors, appeasing the gods and wanton destruction of the bastard earth, Cinders' original name was discarded when during infancy she set fire to near enough anything within distance. For her powers she rewarded herself with petty crime, and not so petty crime, performing arson jobs from a very young age with her father to ensure the local crime syndicates to which her father was involved with received protection money. Nothing quite like the threat of your entire harvest being turned to ash to keep the money rolling in from small farming communities, as well as local lords hiring corrupt fire services to prevent 'freak' flame explosions that were erratic and irregular, seemingly from nothing.
During her teenage years Cinders decided to take a hand at using her skill with fire to do something more than simply threaten people with a bad time should they not pay, yet still wanted payment for applying flame to materials. She took up an apprenticeship with a forgemaster, both learning how to regulate her fire abilities to reach the exact temperature to ensure proper metalwork with exotic materials, be it armour or weapons. Excelling within this field was not enough however, and she was soon sought for her criminal ties to melt down gold jewellery on the sly for a local fence who knew her father. This went undiscovered for many years, and after the plot to turn stolen goods into legal
currency through a coin press and her skills at melting gold without forge equipment, she briefly pursued a career in turning forged currency into legal tender, until she quickly found herself at both the wrong end of the law for her previous venture and the wrong end of the criminal syndicate for her efforts.
There was little else to do but to join an honest to goodness mercenary company to bring the flames to the enemy. She learned how to hurl volleys of quick flame magic to decimate enemies, as well as learning how to use a sword and basics of regimented living. Which is where the problems ran deep. Cinders hated to march, hated her low cut of the shares, and hated the fact that her great prowess was being credited as her unit's distinction. And then one day she found a poster to join a band of sky pirates.
And the rest, is history in the making.
