Cantor is a 'Broker' of Aerin, a goddess of trade whose worship is believed to originate in Alliria. Not content with simple worldly trade of gold, wood, or enchanted goods, Aerin serves as a broker for other deities to extend their reach and influence, at a price of course. Once a contract is made between some deity and Aerin, Aerin accepts a portion of the deity's strength and blessings, and provides that blessing to one of her 'brokers', paladins who work on her behalf, to achieve some goal. For example, Cantor was once contracted to help quell an Orcish raid on the centaurs of the steppes. The centaur's god did not have a holy candidate he was willing to bless permanently, and thus provided Aerin two months of strength. Aerin provided a portion of the centaur god's strength to Cantor, who helped rid the steppes of the raiding war band.

Cantor's service to Aerin has resulted in Cantor having an strange mix of relationships. One one hand, Cantor's friendliness with priests and officials of all religions and nations is good for business, on the other hand today's friend may become tomorrow's enemy. This has culminated in Cantor having a very mercenary perspective and attitude to life. Overall Cantor is quick to make 'connections', but very reluctant to make friends.
