Beatrix is a witch with knowledge of both the necromantic arts and rune magic. She was taught under a mentor but after a ritual-gone-wrong she has been travelling alone. Her intents don't seem to be in the interest of any but herself.

Appearance

Standing at 5'5 Beatrix is robed and attired in ragged and weathered leathers and scraps of fabric, belts buckled with satchels containing various tools, substances, and ingredients. Around her shoulders is a frayed cloak that has certainly seen better days, often snagged on root and branch. Upon her head sits a wide-brimmed hat with a floppy point, often hiding her crystal blue gaze from others.

Long straw blonde hair falls down her back and over her shoulders, rarely ever combed but cleaned regularly. Her gaze is sharp and unerring and rarely does she show much expression upon her pale features. At her hip is a sheathed blade, it is rarely ever drawn. Besides that she's often carrying a wooden staff adorned with animal bones and feathers, it rattles lightly to each step.

Likewise at her hip hangs a skull carved with runes, if one were to ask her she'd openly explain that it's the skull of her 'mother', the crone that taught her all she knew.

Skills and Abilities

Beatrix is versed in both Necromancy and Rune Magic, having been taught how to utilize both from her mentor at a young age. Her skill in Necromancy is still progressing but she can summon and control some small amount of the undead. Her ability with Rune Magic is a lot more impressive, capable of creating complex runes and having a variety of runes tattooed on her own body for ease of use.

Physically Beatrix is not impressive, unable to fend off most trained foes with a blade despite the fact she carries a sword at her belt. Why it's there is a mystery, because she certainly doesn't know how to use it.

Personality

Beatrix is often distant when it comes to others, a life of study and solitude has led to her shirking away the company of others unless it suits her purpose. She is cold and dismissive, and seemingly haunted by some past trauma. Whenever she smirks or smiles it's because she's getting the better of someone, or because she's finally accomplished a new set of runes or risen a mass of the dead. As far as the people of the bayou go, she's pretty common place and fits in.

Biography & Lore

Beatrix was taken in at a young age by an old crone of the bayou, the details of how this came about are uncertain but Beatrix had always suspected her biological parents had made some kind of deal with her mentor that led to her studying beneath her.

The hag taught Beatrix the fundamentals of magic, and most keenly did she instruct her in the use of necromancy and rune magic. She taught her apprentice for years in isolation within the dark swamps, and then one day they were to both perform a ritual of summoning, to trap some distant entity within a vessel in order to harness its great power.

The preparations had been made and both witches began their ritual amidst a great runic circle beneath them. As the spell progressed beneath the light of the blood stars something was drawn down from the heavens and into the circle itself. The ritual runes pulsed and crackled violently as the entity unseen by the eye was being forcefully shackled within its boundaries.

The old crone however had severely underestimated the strength of whatever this creature was, for she soon realized that they couldn't pay the price of the sealing, the entity was too powerful. The crone turned to her student as she attempted to have her be the price, body and soul, but before she could offer it the circle cracked again.

With a scream the hag's veins grew black and bulged within her body as crimson seeped from her eyes, her nose, her ears and mouth. The ritual had decided to take the life of Beatrix' mentor to sustain and complete it, but that wasn't the only challenge that would present itself.

The vessel meant to contain the entity cracked and shattered as it continued to challenge its would-be jailors. The crone's body had all but withered into skin and bone as she fell lifelessly to the floor. Beatrix understood her peril; her mentor had perished, the vessel destroyed, she had to release the entity, to grant it the freedom it fought for or be destroyed by it.

Too late did her decision come as the ritual was completed and the entity was forced into the only suitable vessel remaining; Beatrix herself.

Since then she has felt the presence of the entity within her but never could she harness its power as they intended, never could she seem to rid herself of it. To her it was simply another presence within her soul, one she could not glean any further information from, and so it remains a mystery to even her. At times she could feel a pull from it, a command to allow it to take over. She never has accepted that offer.
