A flurry of interests holds Barnabus in firm grip of activity ; the pursuit of painting portraits and murals both arcane and mundane, the preservation of music notation and theory, and the creation and use of mystic scrolls and pages to entertain, educate, and help people about their toils. Illustrating dynasties in rich hue above fireplace regal, scribing spells of contingencies and utility to aid servants and gentry alike, Barnabus performs many duties with a near tireless dedication. Well meaning to the truth of things, Barnabus is a fellow of appreciation and insight, even if he is somewhat blunt in his outright and forthright estimations. Barnabus presently acts for the Knights of Anathaeum, with brush, quill, word and wit, all with abundantly honest opinion about almost anything at all.

Appearance

Dressed in fineries with an assortment of artistian tools about his person, Barnabus extrudes a certain level of pomp with the sheen of his attire. Bundles of tightly wrapped scrolls are set about his belt, as well as a bejewelled rondel, more a badge of office than for use in physical entanglement. His eyes are often scrunched up, as if straining to see, as if anything at all might be appraised for further worth beyond first glance. He is diminutive in height, akin to a dwarf's stature, and sleek and well groomed of fur. A small hat with purple plume sit supon his head, which is oft employed to make gestures of introductions, respects, manners, and the rare apology.

Skills and Abilities

Skilled with quill scribed word upon parchment that bears potent power once read aloud, Barnabus refuses to be called wizard, but still performs magical deeds via their arcane litanies. He describes himself as a wordsmith to explain how he might avail against confrontation, for the title does fit his purpose succinctly enough. Truth be told, his understanding of magic is rote memorisation, a turnkey solution prepared and produced to what troubles might be encountered by triggering vellum and parchment to perform their power. These scrolls are rendered blank by their use, and must be scribed with a special ink that Barnabus tightly guards the nature of.

Barnabus has a greater understanding of how to render paints and ink empowered, sometimes animating them, oft for educational purposes in painted portrait, book and sign. From shimmering hues of royal uniform, to the iridescent dander of birds mysterious, there is no colour in the realm that he cannot blend and apply in place for all to see.

The wordsmith also has the uncanny ability to memorise conversations, both in their delivery and exact wordage. For this reason, he is sometimes asked to be present, or indeed, absent, during certain functions. Indeed, to avoid certain troubles, he makes himself scarce, for he has been asked as an eye witness one too many times in court and finds no joy in such performances of recall. He often takes upon the role of taking minutes of meetings simply to render them accurate out of professional pride and loyalty to the truth, often days after the fact.

Personality

Barnabus has swift judgement which is shaped by years of seeing both exemplar work and imitative nonsense, his gut instinct strong about most things. He can be swayed in such opinions, by intellectual reasoning or alternate interpretation, the process of which can be sharp and passionate discourse, oft tinged with disbelief at anything contrary to his estimation. Honesty be his virtue and demerit for all it serves, for he must obey the truth of things. But the truth of things in artistic endeavours be often in the beholder.

The fellow earns his rest, sleeping long but infrequently after many labours in many roles and duties. A quick study and rapid of footfall, his impeccable ability of recall serves him well to whatever he might apply himself towards. He has settled into his preoccupations however, and struggles to manage the number of feathers in his cap as it is.

He takes time to refine his opinions with appreciation, preservation and encouragement of the arts, be they in museums or forming within the minds of his colleagues. It has been known for him to act charitably towards those fledgling in their fields, be it by shrewd patronage or unflinching critical commentary. The years of service have loaned well to his pursestrings.

The friendships that have formed with Barnabus are more based upon honesty rather than tact, enduring shared grumblings and opinionated chuntering cathartic and binding to the fellow. Barnabus would prefer a brutal assessment to prattling appeasement, for Barnabus professional duty to greatness requires a contrary opinion to one's own pride, and a friend who cannot tell him that his hat is indeed askew is no friend at all.
