Ashling Delaney
Appearance
Healing from years of abuse she had to endure, she typically chooses to wear clothing that covers most of her body, a way to hide the scars of her past. Rather petite, due to the lack of proper nourishment during those unspoken years, with time that’ll change. Ash is on the shorter side then most. Hair waist length, white in color. Oddly colored teal eyes that seem to pierce the soul. Has a very calming appearance, beautiful in her own way..
Skills and Abilities
Ashling has the ability to heal the broken and revive the dead, with a hefty price. Although she's yet to revive a dead person, she has been able to do so with relatively small animals of all shapes and sizes. Since making her way to the monastery and joining the Knights of Anathaeum, she has begun training on how to hone in this skill and has since discovered much more she’s able to do with it. Where there is life, there’s death and Ash has since realized that there is always a darker side to her magic, one she chooses not to dabble in until she is trained on how to use it or has no other options but to use it. She has also taken up the sword, granted, not anywhere near as good as most within the knights. It’s a work in progress.. A slow work in progress. She also loves to be around animals and has taken an eye for the bow.
Personality
Ashling can be relatively skittish, understandably so if one knew of her past. However, she’s been working hard at giving people the benefit of the doubt and not automatically assuming their bad people. Ashling is untrusting, at first that is. Trust has to be earned and until you are someone she knows rather well, what is said and done is rather.. Questionable. Yet, deep down she’s loving, caring, loyal, a dreamer, a bit mischievous and seeks to have fun whenever she can..
Biography & Lore
Many called her evil, unnatural or simply "witch", but to herself she was purely a child of magic, or what she knew of magic, born into a world of hate. Never could understand how anyone could see her as evil, especially when those that believed her to be were the ones doing horrible, unspeakable, unimaginable things and getting away with it. She knew she was different, in ways others weren't. Ways she couldn’t explain. Things seemed to come “back to life” around her, if she willed them too. Mainly small animals others deemed unimportant or in-the-way. Evan plants or flowers that just needed a little help replenishing seemed to bloom brighter, livelier..What she didn’t know was that this “gift” came with a price. Every animal she saved, even the plants she willed back to their brightest bloom caused something or someone else to wither and unfortunately, she was completely unaware of such. She knew not of where these gifts came from, nor how to actually control them properly. Because of this, even her parents saw her as “something”, a creature of sorts and not their daughter. Ashling became a loner, a stray if you will. Hiding away when she could, keeping to the shadows, doing her best to stay out of eye sight of any within her village that knew of her and. barely ever speaking a word.. The only thing she knew for certain was, the only one she could ever trust was herself..
There came a point in her young life, roughly at the age of 16, that her world as she knew it would come to an end, how, wiill not be said here..There was nothing and nowhere left to hide with everyone gone.. The tiniest bit of safety she did have was now a thing of the past. Thus, the village was left and a new journey began. Ashling found a job at a local tavern in another town hoping to leave the rumors behind. There she learned the ways of a barmaid rather quickly, just to have a place to rest her head at night and food to warm her belly. She never let a soul know what she was, nor what she could do for fear of being killed. So, the magic stopped, she stopped allowing herself to use any of it in any way. What she didn’t know was she hadn't been hired just as a barmaid, but something far worse than she could imagine, worse than the life she’d left behind. She became trapped in a web of lies, spinning her world upsidedown as she was sold by the owner of the tavern to a man that ran a small slave market.
There she was unclothed, save for bits of fabrics, and fit for a collar and soon placed inside that cold steel barred cage where she was left... alone.. In time she became a Duke's toy, something he could play with until he got bored and would send her away until he wanted to play again. He knew of her gift. How was never spoken of but he knew and because of that, found it entertaining to push her to the edge of life and leave her to see how long it took her body to heal.. These times felt like decades and not years, ones of which she wished for the dark claws of death to come and claim her and take her far far away.. Death would have been welcomed, with wide open arms.. These are years she wishes no one to ever know of for fear they would look at her as someone not worthy, not worthy of life, of any type of happiness.. Someone like her.. wasn’t..worthy.
One night, while the Duke was having his fun something in her just… snapped.. All she could see was red, all she could feel was pure rage, she didn’t even know what happened until it was done.. Never had she acted out like she had this night.. blood everywhere.. How had she.. What did she do?! They were all.. Dead.. Before she knew it, she was outside, running..bare feet hit dirt and her lungs ached as she ran as fast as those feet could manage, leaving that disgusting place behind.. Ashling knew that from that point on they’d be out there searching, seeking out the one woman who killed the Duke and his men. She knew that perhaps, one day, she would be caught but until then she must stay silent about it, no one could ever know..
She ran until her feet could no longer, bloodied and bruised. She didn’t know where she ended up, how or when but she stumbled upon a cottage in a dense forest. There she was welcomed by an elderly couple who took her in long enough for her to rest, eat and clothed with clothes that weren’t just scraps of cloth. She didn’t stay long and thanked them for all they had done, she was fearful of staying in one place for too long. Were they still after her? Had they sent the hounds after her? Her feet continued to take her from one place to another.. Soft blushed lips stayed closed except for the few fake smiles and hellos she must give. Pools of teal never stayed on one person for too long, for they say "A way to one's soul is through their eyes" and her eyes had one hell of a story to tell. In time she found herself in the spine and with guided directions, she ended her journey at the doors of the Monastery and the rest has yet to be written…
