Known affectionately as “The Man Who Spread a Thousand Legs”, Asen is a wild spirit. Raised by griffins and more comfortable on the air than land, his wild charm has pulled in quite a few people of all genders. Though he may seem absolutely mad, he hides a sensitive and caring soul who genuinely wants to improve the lives of those around him...if he can stop getting distracted first.

Appearance

Asen is, without a doubt, a handsome figure. His bright blue eyes, animated features, and sparkling smile are infectious. Wind-tousled hair usually has feathers tangled in it, and looks as though he cuts it himself. He does sport several scars across his attractive features, all of which have a story attached...best told over a round of beer.

His body is muscular and wiry, and Asen himself isn’t a particularly tall man at 5’9”. He walks a bit awkwardly on land, possibly due to extended periods in the air or the multiple episodes of shattered leg bones. Several of his fingers are crooked just enough to be interesting and promise horrific arthritis later in life.

Skills and Abilities

Wind Talker: Asen has learned to tell weather systems from living amongst griffins, and can predict the weather somewhat reliably. He is sensitive to changes in barometric pressure and humidity, and is acutely aware of cloud formations.

Caw Means Love: He has learned to reliably imitate hundreds of bird species, some with such frightening accuracy people would think the animal is in the room with them. He is confident in communicating with practically every Griffin subspecies, and many birds.

Adrenaline Addict: Asen has perfected an array of high flying stunts, and is more at home in the air than on the ground. As such, he has an incredible sense of balance in precarious situations.

Big Bird: Being raised by an albatross Griffin has its perks. Asen has the ability to summon his mother Thea anytime he is near a coast.

Friend for Life: Asen’s lifetime companion is a peregrine Griffin named Walborga.

Personality

Asen is the first man to sit next to someone, anyone and chat. He thinks most of life’s problems would be solved if everyone got together and had a rowdy good time. Consequently, he has a bit of a reputation as someone who never backs down from a bet or challenge. Whether it’s drinking men under the table, tightrope challenges in Alliria or racing through narrow canyons on Walborga, Asen is always chasing that next adrenaline high. The next adventure is always around the corner and he doesn’t want to miss a second of it.

Unfortunately, this has given him a bit of a mouth. Asen is an accomplished motormouth with very little filter. His sharp eyes distract him constantly, like a bowerbird collecting treasures. He steals for the thrill of it, plays practical jokes on a whim, and despises authority.

Despite his seeming immaturity, Asen is quite emotionally attuned to the needs of others. He’s quick to offer a helping hand, a comforting pat, or a hug. A rampant bisexual, this can often veer into his trademark charm and scrambling out of a noble man’s window at the crack of dawn.

Biography & Lore

Asen has little memory of his life in Vel Anir. When he was a mere toddler, his parents’ caravan was attacked on the Cortosi Coast. Being too young to sell and not worth killing, Asen was abandoned by the brigands to starve.

Luckily, an Albatross Griffin mourning the loss of her chicks heard his cries. Thea took the toddler and raised him on her own. Asen grew up sleeping on her broad back and listening to the sounds of the sea, as albatross rarely land. He ate raw fish and learned to speak common more reliably from her, and other griffins. Starting with seabirds, and with most of them fish eaters who had no fear of the albatross, Asen learned to talk to anything with feathers. Chatty frigatebirds, far-traveling gulls and swifts, even ducks, swans and geese.

Asen met Walborga in the same sea. Having been tricked by a pigeon into getting her feathers wet, Walborga was found flopping around in the water and would have died if not for Asen. Both being of strong will, the pair became fast friends.
