Appearance

Massively tall, with a lean muscle just a hair shy of brawny, a shaved head and neat braided beard of white in the fashion of many sailors, his mothers' blood-gift means he is often shirtless, seen with tattoos on his torso and head, and trinkets braided into his beard, disdaining the need for clothing or shoes on his ship due to his lineage

Skills and Abilities

  • Sailor
  • Swordsman
  • A natural affinity for Rune Magic & Storm magic (unknown)
  • Eerily good at reading and predicting the weather
  • Extended time period underwater not needing to breathe

Personality

At times bawdy, there is a contemplative side if one were to get to know him. The keen intellect and wisdom he bears are hidden behind the crude and rough persona of a sailor and mercenary.

Biography & Lore

Arthfael was born to a human father, his mother a wandering Storm Giant, of whom he knows little to nothing about. His father claims to have met her on a voyage of his ship, having been a mercenary company and ship captain.

At the time, the ship was dry-docked for extensive repairs from a naval battle she barely survived. His father claims he was swept from the rigging as yet another storm raged, and said he woke in the care of Arthfael's mother and was allowed to stay and recover in the remote port city of her kind.

Eventually, his father recovered, and would be guided under blindfold back to his men from the port of the reclusive folk, quite without warning, and pined ever more for the one who rescued him.

Some years later, Arthfael would appear at his doorstep without warning, a letter explaining that his mother had died fighting against a rival giant clan and that the young half-giant was now the problem of Junik, an aged mercenary captain.

After years of being raised to work a ship, fish, sail, and fight, the stature of Arthfael became obviously outside that of others, even with a 'comes from good stock' joke by Junik. Eventually, his band would mostly desert him, muttering superstition about the odd colored eyes and hair of the lad, and how he seemed to revel in storms at sea.

Best as he could, Junik taught him all he knew of the sea, ships, fighting. Removed from running a full company, the father and son sold their swords across the lands, and from their Arthfael learned bits and pieces of his heritage, and Junik was able to use his waning influence to make several introductions for his son.

Came a time when Arthfael woke to find his father had taken a small fishing boat near their seaside cabin and disappeared into the waves. His health had been failing, and more of his talk had turned to the woman beyond the waves, as he called Arthfael's mother.

Left alone, the young half-giant gathered what money and gear he could, and has set out to try and discover his mother's kin, and learn more of his parentage.
