Born and raised in Zar'Ahal, Alak was once mocked for being a life-long student, but all those who once mocked him have since seen the error of their ways. Alak was born a dark elf noble as the the firstboy of House Rasivrein, and he was raised within the confines of his House's territory. His education began there, training with the house's weapon master and learning the skills expected of a noble male.

Eventually, he was shipped off to the warrior academy and spent the next 10 years training within its walls as many of those in his city did. His prowess with the blade was second only to another in his class, and he quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest fighters in the school.

Uncommonly, after graduating, he was then sent on to a College of Magic and spent an additional 30 years studying a diverse number of practices and ways to conjure and use magic. His career here was marked by rivalry with his fellow students, and some of them even experienced unfortunate "accidents" in the heat of their disagreements.

Upon leaving his school, he found his appetite for magic was voracious, and he was left wanting to learn more of its ways. He delved deeply into blood magic, and found ways to leech people's life energies from them. Ultimately, Alak returned to his home and took up the responsibilities expected of him, but with each new skill he learned, his ambition grew.

With time he found the traditions and abuses of his family stifling, and as his own ambitions grew he suspected he would have to leave his home if he wanted to reach the full potential of his ambitions. On his final night in his house, his younger brother - driven by envy and ambition of his own - made an effort to kill Alak, but was in turn slain. The act was enough to finally drive Alak from his home and sent him to explore the world beyond the deep.

To those who meet him, Alak is a difficult person to describe. In most situations, he appears as a surprisingly charismatic and like-able individual, but this is merely a ruse that hides his true nature. Alak is a self-serving and manipulative man who is as willing to kill you as help you if it will put him ahead. He cares not for the plights of others except as they advance his own goals.

Although his selfish nature is often hidden behind a mask of charisma and sometimes even benevolence, there is almost always an angle for himself in every one of his actions. His pursuit of blood magic has led more than a few victims to an early death after trusting the dark elf, but few ever learn of these secrets and survive.

Alak is a skilled combatant and mage. Having spent the younger years of his life training as both a mage and a warrior, he fancies himself a battle mage who conjures and casts in the heat of combat. This is most often accomplished through the use of a sword or free hand, but he can occasionally be seen with a staff of some sort.

His years in training at both academies gave him a wide array of skills for use with magic and combat, and he loves both equally. He hopes that his travels in the world will allow him to learn new techniques and harvest ancient energies for his own gain.

While Alak uses a variety of different pieces of equipment from time to time - most notably variations of staffs - the most common things he is seen using are the sword and dagger that are ever at his waist as well as his armor.

The armor itself is unique in that he helped craft it with a red gem in the center that is quite pleasing to look at. However, like Alak himself, the outward beauty hides a more nefarious truth. Although this is unknown to those who meet him, the dull red gem is an essential component of his magic. He uses it to store energy from the blood of those he has killed and the conjunctions he draws on in order to fuel much of his magic in combat.
