Aila
Aila is one of the Forsaken, a shadowy group of mages who were taken by Vel Anir as children to be trained as assassins and killers.
Much like the famed Dreadlords of Vel Anir, the Forsaken are trained from childhood for their specific purpose. They are experts in their fields and rival even the greatest of assassins in the world. Despite this similarity however, the Forsaken hold some key differences from their Dreadlord siblings.
For starters, each Forsaken is a half-breed. Sharing the blood of an Anirian and some other species, the Forsaken are shameful secrets, they are not celebrated and more often than not are given up willingly by their parents, often with as little fanfare as possible.
The training of a Forsaken is also far more cruel than that of a Dreadlord. Though this hardly seems possible given the reality of the Academy, the physical violence and mental torture endured by the Forsaken is so horrid that only one in ten of their ranks survive to actually 'graduate'. This is often also due to various magical experiments and tortures that the Forsaken undergo, and unlike Dreadlords, they are considered far more expendable due to their heritage.
Upon the completion of their training, each of the Forsaken is also marked with an incredibly powerful piece of Rune Magic. This mark allows those in charge of the Seven Houses, or those who know the correct phrase, to give the Forsaken basic commands. This ensures that the Forsaken must be pliant and will never betray Vel Anir.
Aila is no different than most of her Forsaken brethren.
Born through the affair of a noble woman with an Elf, Aila was hated and despised from the moment she was brought into this world. Her mother's husband barely resisted strangling the girl when she was born, only holding off at the behest of a Dreadlord who sensed the child's potential.
Before she was two weeks old Aila entered the care of this Dreadlord, and was then eventually handed off to the Forsaken themselves.
Here she spent the next twenty years in grueling training. Beneath the streets of Vel Anir she learned to kill better than most, becoming an expert in death and learning to expand her unique magics. Upon her graduation Aila was the first to receive a modified Rune Mark created by Validus Ordo.
This new mark allowed for more precise commands, and has lead to Aila becoming a tool to send 'special' messages to the foes of Vel Anir. The Nobility often utilizing her to create scenes of utter horror for enemies.
Though outwardly Aila has never shown an ounce of resistance, within the back of her mind she is trapped in a world of Horror. One she struggles against daily.
Skills and Abilities
Aila is what is known as a 'magical leech'.
Her abilities as a leech are innate and inherent, taking effect whenever she is around another mage or sorcerer. The power she gains is 'leeched' from from said person or magical object.
Put more simply; Aila naturally takes on the abilities of the mages around her to a lesser degree. When she steals the abilities of other sorcerers it becomes incorporated into her own body through marks upon her flesh. There she is able to store the magic for a time, though the longer a mark sits on her body, the more it festers. Eventually, this can kill her through the effect of whatever magic she took.
The magic she takes it also inherently weaker than it's source, since Aila is only ever capable of taking a small portion of her victims power. This can be increased if she touches the victim, and even more so if the effect is voluntary.
Her innate nature as a Leech is also not a voluntary act. It takes conscious effort for her not to leech power from someone, and when she is not aware that someone nearby is a sorcerer her body naturally begins the process of taking their ability.
This can be incredibly dangerous, since unconsciously stealing someones magic can have disastrous results.
