Fable - Ask What Riches Here Do Lie

Alexios had put the word out that he was a collector of rare magical items and he was in need of a mage of some deft skill in order to confirm or deny the presence of a magical enchantment he had purchased. The lie wasn't too far from the truth after all - he had recently come into possession of an item that was said to have quite a potent magical enchantment.

Honestly it would have been hard to miss but there remained the chance that it might have weathered and aged over the years to the point that it was no longer really magical at all. This didn't match up with the timeline, of course, as the item in question was said to be a mastercraft of magic made less then three centuries ago.

It didn't make sense to him that it had gone inert over such a short amount of time.

The other option, the option he had been entertaining at the back of his mind, was both amusing and oh so very dangerous. But that was something that could be discussed with others once it had been tested.
