Are you a treasure hunter? Perhaps an adventurer, or a wanderer in need of some coin? Are you a historian, or a scholar, or are you just simply curious?
Do you like gold? But more importantly, do you like to drink?
Well then, good.
Tales of the Ancients have been passed on for ages, and while some if not most are lost to the great gulf of time or the vastness of Arethil, there are those which remain – even if they are hidden. There is one such tale only recently revealed, an enticing tale to many of those who hear it.
It is said that in the very earliest of Arethil’s days there existed a great creature, who presided over the land and bore witness to the gods’ own arrival. A beast of might and magic and courage and strength, his glory was said to shine even greater than the Sun.
But even the incorruptible is made corrupt, and it is said his bright light was blotted. Death reigned were his majesty once had, and all of Arethil trembled under the utterance of his hate.
But by the gods’ strength he was defeated, but while his body was destroyed his spirit persisted, and Arethil felt no rest from his malice. It is written that to finally put an end to his reign of brutal terror, his spirit was entrapped in a prison made of gold, and ruby, and diamond. Written to be of tremendous size, and aptly named the Heart of Dae'lich'Qal.
While not many people believe much from the story, there is one thing from it that may yet be true. Where an X marks the spot of a great bounty, there are those who will seek it.
So, are you here for the gold? Are you here for the knowledge? Or are you here to drink your face off each time you make camp?
But make sure there is someone sober, for the road is not an easy one.
