The crashing of stone upon stone rang our across the field as catapults found their mark upon the ramparts of the castle, a sound as common as the shouting and marching of men within the camp over the past two weeks. Sieges were never Jaerys' ideal battle conditions, no matter which side of the wall he was on. They were long and brutal, and always bad for morale. Yet, coin was coin, and the Broken Standard never backed out of a contract.

His men had done their part well, their varying skillsets contributing to whatever areas the army of their employer were lacking. That was a rather significant difference between them and many other free companies. They were essentially a complete fighting force, perhaps strong enough to even establish a kingdom of their own one day. That, however, was never the intent, for none of the Standard had such ambitions. They preferred the freedom of their rather nomadic life, and they would fight to keep it, even if it meant sleeping in the dirt, waiting for the opponents on the other side of the wall to surrender.

Jaerys marched his way across their lines, gazing upon the castle in the distance as he attempted to assess the situation. The remaining strength of the enemy was unknown, though they had seemed to continue putting up a decent fight. Perhaps the scouts he had sent in the night would have some relevant news upon their return, but that was yet to be seen. For now, he would have to settle for checking up on his men, ensuring their spirits were high and their health well. He cared for them as family, for they had the only family he had known in years. It was this bond that had kept them faithful to his will, and it was this same bond that would keep them fighting until the enemy broke.

It was only a matter of time...
