Had a random thought at work today. If I were to set up a shop where folks could come in, sell their baubles, trinkets, magical weapons, quest rewards that have stats lower than what you looted in a dungeon three days ago, etc. would folks be game for that? Pay in gold (because yay meaningless numbers of make believe metal discs!) or trade with other items they may or may not have obtained legally or morally.
