Sir Tobias the Unbroken

Fritz was out in the forests below Elbion. He was looking for rocks to break incase they had minerals, while also trying to hunt some animals for food, as he preferred to do that instead of buying at the, to him, ridiculous prices the city enforces. He also decided to try out his new invention, a rack for carrying dead animals, putting it on his back alongside the deer he had already caught.

Obviously, this was for exercise. He continued to walk along, feeling sort of bored. He then made a possibly fatal mistake. He chose to do a birdcall. This sounded rather innocuous, but he soon heard a savage, low, growling rumble come from the trees in response as a grey wolf charged towards him, alerted by the noise, knocking him off balance and his kill off his back.

He quickly shrugged off the contraption and unsheathed a broadsword and a knight tier shield, which he knew he could not do fancy moves with, but brought it anyway for the extra defense. He ran to meet the wolf and slashed, making his hunter stop and jump back. He gathered his courage and jumped forward to try to thrust the blade into the creature's neck.

It was dodged and he fell , twisting onto his back. He just had time to raise his shield so that the wolf 's slavering mouth could not tear open his throat...

"HELP!"

Tobias was on his way back from a rather disappointing escort job. Nothing interesting had happened and it was easy money. Normally, that would be a good thing, but the snobbish trader had been insufferable. It did not really matter anymore. He had his gold, so better to just leave it behind him.

He heard the cry for help and Tobias urged his horse into a gallop. He broke through into a small clearing to see a young man and a wolf locked into a fight.

The burly gentlemen grimaced as he dismounted from his horse and drew out his large greatsword.

"Alright, you big mutt. Come at me!" He bellowed out in challenge. He moved forward moving his greatsword in a circular motion creating a defense, but also creating momentum for his blade.

Fritz really had no idea what was going on now. However stupid he was, he knew what a knight looked like and damn he had a very cool sword. He used a sword that looks like it could slice a castle's turret in half. That was the type of sword Fritz imagined himself using....in his dreams.

He really only had one idea. He reached for his sword with a grunt and hit the large beast with the hilt, before slightly lowering the shield to slam it into the wolf's face, stunning it.

He did a backwards roll and landed on his feet. "Marvelous sword! I'm, um... a smith's apprentice. Nevermind, I'll ask you about it and yourself later after you finish killing that." He said with a grin, grabbing his contraption and strapping it to his back. He would pick up the kill after.

Sir Tobias the Unbroken

Tobias simply grunted in response as the wolf focused his attention on him. He could not help but notice that his sword was slower than he remembered. A time ago, he could have swung this sword for hours with no problem. Now...let's just say time catches up to us all.

The wolf lunged towards him and that saved Tobias a lot of time. With a quick downward swing, he cleaved the creature in two with one clean strike. The speed of the sword propelled the blood splatter outward leaving Tobias relatively clean from the creature's death.

"Ah, that's better. Are you alright boy?"

"Just fine, thanks to you! Your name is?" he asked, wonderment in his eyes. "Are you a knight? Your armor seems fancier than that of a normal adventurer." he noted.

"Sorry, I must remember to mind my manners around you folk. My name is Fritz. I usually give another name, just in case I can't trust some people, but since you saved my from getting mangled, I suppose we can skip that part."

"Good lord look at the time. Can we continue this talk on the way back to Elbion?"

"Oh and, Your name is?"

Sir Tobias the Unbroken

The boy had just attempted to start a different conversation at the same time. Tobias grunted and sheathed his sword once more. A grunt of uncomfortable pain indicated a strain. Hmm, maybe he pulled a muscle.

"Good to know Fritz. I was heading that way, so I suppose we can walk together. You may call me Tobias."

Tobias kicked at the corpse of the bisected creature and looked up. "Any reason you were out here?"

"Looking for rocks! Iron and steel are apparently plentiful around Elbion! Also, I was out for food, and this thing on my back is for exercise." He said with a grunt as he picked up the thankfully rip free deer. "Beautiful, right? Very strong horns and such are good for weaponry and armor."

"Tobias, huh? Very noble name. Are you simply an adventurer or a knight? I assume you are a knight because of your willingness to help."

(I thought it was a wolf?)

"No, not a knight. Just someone who was in a position to help." The boy certainly had many hobbies it would seem.

"It's safer to go out in pairs...You would need a lot of minerals to make an ingot of steel."

Tobias whistled and his horse broke through the brush running over to him with a whinny. He just laughed and gave the horse a pat on the neck.

"Alright, good idea. I just don't...don't really have that many friends. Working all day sort of does that to your social life and so."

"How is your horse? I might as well give him some food and water when we get back, given that his swift hooves carried you here. If you want a polishing or sharpening that is also doable."

"I think I've had enough of the forest. I'd feel better if you led the way though"

"Then buy the steel like a regular smith...You won't get lucky every day and have someone passing by. "

"He's fine. He is used to few tough days, but some water would be nice."
Tobias only nodded to the final comment and placed his sword in his horse's saddle. He took its reigns and led it towards Elbion.

"Look, steel is very expensive. Carrying rocks that contain it around is good for my back, and then I can make more money."

"How about this...I'll get your some water, and while he has his time to drink, you teach me how to fight with a sword. It's a win-win situation!"

"Water for sword lessons? Pretty cheap lessons." He said jokingly, but then sighed. "I can't teach you much. This sword is a bit too heavy for you. If you want general advice then take the sharp in and stick it in the person you have a problem with."

Tobias was not a swordmaster. He had never tried teaching someone how to use a sword, mainly cause his style really did not translate well to others. One had to have a massive amount of strength and the body for it.

"I believe if you can swing that meat cleaver around all the live long day, you can teach yourself and by proxy , me, how to use a small sword such as this. Surely you don't believe that all your opponents in your entire life won't be crafty enough to get in a range that you cannot swing you sword, right? Also, I don't believe that you only carry one weapon anyway." He rambled.

Tobias looked over to his horse. The only other weapon on it was the crossbow. "The only melee one. Besides, not saying I can't give you a pointer or two, but you need to find someone that fights with a sword like yours."

"Well then, teach me what little you can anyways. You are the first adventurer I've had opportunity to talk to outside of Elbion's core city!"
