Few things can match the artistry of old Arragoth smiths, and the Horned Aegis is no exception in this matter. There is no finer shield a soldier could carry with them to battle – if they can lift it, of course. It was, after all, made by Dwarves, for Dwarves, and those are indeed the warriors who have wielded the shield for much of its existence. The occasional Orc has been able to use it, but most other species struggle to wield the bulwark crafted entirely from the finest Dwarven metal.
- Name: The Horned Aegis
- Type: Shield
- Size: Large and heavy – requires considerable strength to use in battle
Overview
Description
That the shield is a product of the finest Dwarven craftsmanship is plainly obvious even to the greatest layman. The metal has a particular burnished gleam shared by all metal from their halcyon days. Geometrical patterns carved into the face of the shield might’ve meant something to the Dwarves of the old, but today they just make for a beautiful work of art.
The ram’s head decorating the boss of the shield is the crest of ancient Clan Slahurtur from the Spine. The Dwarven runes etched into the metal praise valor, strength, and heavy strikes – all of them qualities Slahurtur were famous for when they still fought in the battlefields of old.

Effect
Besides providing excellent protection to those who can bear its weight, the shield has also been been enchanted to aid the wielder in combat. If the warrior chants the incantation carved into the shield while charging an enemy, the force of his impact is said to be doubled – grown men tumbled aside like children.
Attacking in this manner, however, tends to tire out the wielder much faster than usual, and saps at their speed especially. Even the most resilient warriors stumbled over their own legs like waifs if they overused the power of the shield, and many have been felled on the battlefield when they overestimated their own endurance.

History
Background
Clan Slahurtur have earned their place in Dwarven history by virtue of two great feats – as masters of war and craft. In the Horned Aegis, their two skills were married in perfection of Dwarven artistry with metal and art alike.
Since its creation many centuries ago by great smiths and mages working in unison, the shield has been passed down through the Slahurtur bloodline, from warrior to warrior. It has been lost during times of war, recovered, brought back by returning soldiers, then lost again more times than anyone has cared to record.
Thanks to the newfound peace, the Horned Aegis has once again found its way to its ancestral home in the city of Belgrath.
