Out-of-character information

Nightsingers, also colloquially called Deathralers are ghastly raven-like birds with a tendency to follow transient groups of people and mimicking the cries of war or the sound of the dying. Often prolonging the haunting sounds for days after the last man on the field has died.

Overview

Language

Some say the Nightsingers can speak intelligently, however, their understanding of language is equal to that of parrots. They are most notoriously known to elaborately mimick speech of others and each other. Entire flocks would often end up orchestrating words or sentences.

Appearance

Nightsingers look like ravens or crows, except for appearing far more gnarly. Their most common colour is black, white, gray or any mixture of the listed. Wherever black, their feathers are brilliantly iridescent.

Habitat

They generally live in arid and semi-arid landscapes. None can be found in Falwood, however, flocks can be found along the whole Cortosi coast.
The largest flocks are located around the Seret mountains and Amol-Kalit. The most distant flocks of Nightsingers can be found on Eaglehead, Epressa.

Traits

The ability to flawlessly mimic speech and sound. Preferring to mimic voice over mere sounds and always preferring to mimic the cries of the dying.

Traits

Nightsingers are often to be considered as the psychopomps in certain Kaliti traditions, some say they even predate the most widespread religion and thus their purpose has often been appropriated to suit various needs of younger religions. In such a role, they are often referred to as the Azrail.
Some accounts of surviving soldiers state of grotesque, or beautiful winged angels that descended upon the corpses, guiding the souls into heaven. Perhaps a mere misconception brought forth under delusional pain, perhaps the truth.
