A delightful trinket, though entirely too fond of drama. Instead of pointing north, it swings wildly toward the strongest magic nearby. Very helpful when seeking ruins. Less so when passing through a wizard's guild, where it spun so violently that it flew apart and embedded a splinter in my beard. I kept the splinter. It still shakes when spellcasters approach. The compass is a metal disc housing a sliver of pale crystal. Instead of orienting itself to the cardinal directions, the needle turns to face the nearest magical presence. It cannot determine the nature of the magic, only its proximity, making it both a valuable guide and a potential source of false confidence.
