WIP, TRYING TO ADJUST TO REMOVE A BUNCH OF STUFF WITHOUT SACRIFICING HIS STORY

A man who feels deeply, but expresses it sparingly.

A warrior who fights not for glory, but to protect the ones he loves.

Appearance

Søren has short, dark hair and tanned skin with freckles dotting his skin. He is taller, standing at 6'5" and with an athletic build that is a testament to years of training. His hazel eyes are flecked with gold in the center. His most defining feature is the pair of scars running down either side of his face from a near fatal encounter when he was a teenager.

Skills and Abilities

Søren was trained, like many others, in the art of swordsmanship. His skill with a blade is unparalleled in and out of the skies.
He is quite skilled with most hands on activities and rather enjoys carving figurines or tinkering with whatever has stolen his attention on a given day.

Personality

He's got a sharp wit and dry sense of humor.

Søren comes across as confident, even intimidating. Beneath his impenetrable exterior, lies a deeply introspective man who is still haunted by the weight of his responsibility and the lives lost in the early years of his command. Given his reputation, Søren is hesitant to show any vulnerability. A leader must project strength, even when they are riddled with guilt. The losses have taken a toll on him, leaving him emotionally guarded and reluctant to let anyone in. Still, his loyalty to the companions he has is absolute and he would gladly give his life to protect any one of them.

Biography & Lore

Søren Vigdisdottir was born into a prestigious family whose legacy is rooted deeply with the amount of dragon riders it has produced. His father, Mikkel, was a celebrated general, hailed a hero during the war. His eldest brother, Stellen, had been the golden child who excelled as their father had. Even his younger sister, Synneve, had bonded with a dragon. It was no wonder that from the moment Søren was able to walk, these familial expectations began to weigh heavily on him. He often wondered if he would be able to carry the expectations of his family or if he would collapse beneath.

By age fourteen he had bonded with his dragon, Kaltara, and was thrust out from his brother's shadow. He was forced to train relentlessly, pushed beyond his limits until it paid off and the pair ascended into leadership.

At seventeen, he was given command of a small squadron of young dragon riders and they were tasked with patrolling the borders of Thanasis. Søren's natural instincts as a leader and strategist made them successful, but more importantly, his squadron grew to trust and love one another like the family he never felt he had. For the first time in his life, he felt the depth of camaraderie...however, their bond would soon be put to the test.

It was only a routine mission when Søren and his squadron were ambushed. It had been a trap that Søren did not anticipate- a failure in his judgment that he would never forgive himself for.

They were outnumbered. They were inexperienced. They fought valiantly, but they were overwhelmed and lost their focus.

Søren's scars, two jagged lines down either side of his face, were inflicted by a rogue dragon as he tried to defend the youngest of the squadron- a young boy named Erick. His own dragon saved him, but not before he had lost consciousness after a blow to the head. He awoke hours later as the sun was beginning to set on a battlefield littered with the bodies of his entire squadron.

He was the only survivor.
