"Aye, I remember him from some time ago. 'Ow could a man forget? Me an' the boys got contracted to 'andle some strange ongoings in the Vale. Villagers were missing their children and some of the ones they found, well uh... Lets just say they wasn't in the best condition when we found the corpses. Looked like they'd been torn through by some wild beast. These wasn't no bandit raids or kids games. I remember leadin' the hunt for whatever sick bastard did this and then I saw the fucker. Big and hairy as any 'ell you can imagine. Big canines. Claws that could cut through armor. Took me 'ole damned unit out. Good men. Strong men. You think you're about to go to the same 'ell that this big bastard came from... Then you get a glimpse of 'eaven when that tall son of a bitch rides in on that white 'orse, gleaming as though the sun were out. Suddenly the shite yeh saw'r in yeh nightmares becomes small when you see tha' kinda light. Cu' through that werewolf like butter... All the bad tha' yeh knew existed in the world, you, eh... Yeh that's somethin' to balance it all ou' now, yeah? I owe me life to Solon Raye."

Appearance

Syr Solon Raye is built strong and stands at a proud 6'3. Being a descendant of a desert people has gifted him with a deep ebon skinned complexion. Solon holds a strong gaze, always careful to look the other person he's talking to in the eyes. His smile, while rare, is warm and inviting as is the aura he tries to present when first making contact with people. In public as well as in battle, Syr Raye wears a handsome gilded steel armor, a thing that has become a part of his public persona as a Knight of Anathaeum. In private, he adorns more muted and dim colors that one might expect from a scholar or wizard.

Many within the Order of the Knights of Anathaeum would agree that Solon Raye's greatest strength is perhaps his tenacity and determination. Whatever he sets his mind on is something that he's likely to accomplish it and on a very high level at that. It was his determination and his mind that led him to study and emulate his father's skill with a blade. Seren Raye was one of the world's premiere swordsmen and mercenaries, said to have been possessed by the spirits of the sands of his home when he was engaged in combat. Solon has matched his father's style of combat to near perfection, combining it with all that he's learned about fighting through his time as a Squire and Knight of the Order. He is a fine and disciplined combatant, keeping his skills sharp through both training and experience in the field.

Solon took his time learning magic under the Knights of Anathaeum quite seriously, having become a a Knight Pursuant in the Path of Life. He has studied a great deal of magic in that Pursuit, capable of using it to heal and protect himself and others. He's even shown himself to be capable of using this form of magic to boost his own already impressive physical capabilities to higher levels, making him a force to be reckoned with on any battlefield and against most opponents. This is also highly effective against the damned and unholy, making him the bane of necromancers and demons. Further, Solon is skilled in the Pursuit of Flame and of the Wild making great use of elemental and natural magic for offensive and other needs when he needs to get creative to solve problems. He is just as dangerous a sorcerer as he is a warrior to be certain.

To a lesser degree, he has an understanding of the Pursuit of Loch and the Pursuit of Death but only on a base level. Solon is capable of casting simple and temporary illusions and can commune with spirits for a very short time.

Personality

Solon does his best to uphold all the is good in the world. As a Knight of Anathaeum and having been raised in the shadow of one since he was a small boy, he has a strong moral compass and allows that to make decisions for him. He is stern and dedicated to his vows as a knight and to the protection of all creatures from the evils they couldn't hope to understand. Solon is as dedicated to the blade and martial tradition just as he is dedicated to the arcane and using it to find ways to better a world that's slowly dying.

Biography & Lore

Born to a mercenary father and a deceased mother, Solon saw much of the world at a young age. Seren Raye was a renowned duelist and sellsword, known in many ports for his keen skill with all manner of blades. Solon got to see much of the world at his father's side and always took note of the way he moved. The way he held his sword and the way he seemed to dance with it. He was much like the desert sands of Amol-Kalit at night. When a wind swept through, it's movement could be painful. Cold. It's true motives and where the wind would carry it was lost in the night. He'd seen his father send many a man's spirit into the wind, long before it was time for him to see such things. It took root somewhere in the back of his mind, he supposed.

Perhaps that was why he knew he had it in him to do what must be done...

Solon was eleven when his father died. He'd taken a contract to be a part of some lordling in the Vale's retinue before he was set upon by a creature of the night. No one ever told him what. They probably didn't want to traumatize him more outside of seeing Seren's dead eyes. The rest of him was picked apart. Consumed by something, the name of which he would never come to know. But he did come to know a gentle and strong hand in the man that took him in after.

Syr Godfried Tybalt was a Knight Pursuant in the Knights of Anathaeum and a long time friend of his father. Solon never knew why Godfried decided to take him in. He always had some idea, though. Solon never found time to cry over his father as Syr Godfried was as demanding as he was gentle. He taught Solon to read, a thing that Seren never quite found the time for such things. Solon soon became a Prospect of the Knights of Anathaeum, having fallen in love with their history and legendary tales of combat and magic. Something in him drew him closer to wanting to be just like the heroes of the Knighthood from so long ago.

It was pain. Pain was his greatest motivator. And everytime he saw the flesh of the innocent shredded by some fell creature, he saw his father all over again. A wise man once told him that such evils existed in the world because truly good men did nothing. They became comfortable with life as it was in the day. The night would always remind them of it's presence...
He was driven by all the old stories of the Knight Commander Atorius and the Master of the Pursuits. He would join their ranks, he knew. He was driven, becoming the Squire of Syr Godfried when he was deemed of age. He was dutiful and it was only when he'd become the Squire of Syr Godfried that he'd learned how frightening the world truly was. When he wasn't sequestered in the halls of the Monastery, studying theory on all of the Knightly Paths and practicing swordplay in the yard with future heroes, he would be at Syr Godfried's side. Syr Godfried was more than just a sorcerer or a warrior. He'd chosen the Path of Life to not only cleanse the world of darkness. His magic seemed deeper than that.

He helped him understand that the truth of things.
There would always be darkness in the world.
The truth of the Life, the truth that drove him and made him dedicate himself to such a noble cause was that the enlightenment rested in every man, woman and child with and ounce of good in their hearts.
Any who would pick up the blade, magic, or the truth of their words to maintain all that mattered in the world.
Truly noble men made the light searing against the encroaching darkness.
This was the truest path to enlightenment and peace for all.
This was the true way of the Path of Life.

After some time of serving at Syr Godfried's side, he went on to become a Knight Sworn. His dedication to his duties as well as his ever pressing drive to be the best knight that he could possibly be and it wasn't long before he was elevated to the Sanctum of Dawn. The Path of Life not only illuminated his understanding of the understanding of that magic, but let him know that he could understand magic on other paths as well. Just as he was dedicated to his scholarly pursuits, he quickly proved that he was as capable a sorcerer as he was a fighter and a leader. As a Knight Pursuant of the Path of Light, there are few places that his journey won't take him. He has gained a reputation in many ports like his father before him as well as smaller places in between. He became a knight that was well on his way to becoming one of the legendary knights of old. But there is still much learning he has to do.

Every night before he slept, his dreams would begin peacefully. Then he would see old Seren's warm smile that Solon borrowed. The dance of his blade, gifted to him from the gods of the sands of his great home. His first true master. A master in life and a master of his heart. How it all went cold when that creature of the night came and tore his throat out. Everyone looked to him as some sort of hero. No flaw. Only light to sear and light to lead mortals to a better day.

But why couldn't the light erase this dark image in his heart?

His father was dead. And there was no teaching or dogma or level of understanding or light that he could obtain to bring him back. And so Solon presses on, conquering nightmares made flesh and questioning if he's done enough...

Pain was the greatest motivator.
