As an evolutionary nocturnal species, the Yuelens have naturally dark skin in order to blend in with the night. While some Yuelens with muddled ancestry have simple brown skin, others skin is dark like the night sky. Covering their flesh in flashes akin to lightning streaks are the Yuelens mana vessels. Yuelens are born with exceptionally thin mana walls at a cellular level, providing their body with visible mana vessels that can offer them exceptional mana control.

Yuelens hatch with fully formed horns that grow bigger as their skull grows. These horns can be of various numbers and figures, however they are always present. A Yuelen without their horns is known as a Qun, "to be hurt". Yuelen may also grow wings, however this is not the case for all, especially freshly formed souls. These wings can be leathery, scaled, or feathered.

The first Yuelens hatched atop Vriska Peak in the Spine Mountains. Cold, wet, misty and windy are home to the Yuelens. They do not freeze easily thanks to a highly efficient energy management metabolism and likewise they can live for long periods without food or water. As the Yuelen society evolved and began to travel the mountains looking for traders, they began adapting to different biomes among the varied mountains. Yuelens do not naturally prefer the heat, however with enough sweating they perservere. This means it is likely to find them in all corners of the world, particularly where business is regular and information is being traded.
