Kingdom of Nid
A Kingdom Forgotten by Time
Deep beneath Arethil’s surface lies a mysterious city illuminated by an otherworldly light. Nestled far below in the caves, glowing insects, whose luminescent bodies fill the cavernous space with a soft blue-green glow, provide the only source of illumination in this subterranean city. Despite its darkness, there is still beauty; colorful fungi decorate the stone city and as you tread deeper, strange crystals will reveal you, inviting you to visit as they sparkle within the recesses of the walls. Further down will reveal a molten city, the third and final within the kingdom of Nid.

Lortha, Slumbering City
One does not wander into Lortha on purpose. Nicknamed the Slumbering City, Lortha is the first of three cities comprising the kingdom of Nid. There is no consensus on which is the true origin of the city’s name, but two theories have been considered. The first was based on the written account of the city’s presence prior to the arrival of the first modern settlers. In Efferil Cithreth’s journal, as a group of lost explorers explored the stalactite-like architecture, they came upon the body of a woman, Lorindiel, sleeping on her throne. The second theory was based simply upon the eerie silence that the city offers as one approaches. Even during the liveliest of celebrations, Lortha from afar appears still and silent beneath the luminescent canopy provided by nature’s own little stars.
Lortha is the main city, housing the King Gilion, Queen Lorindiel, and one of three children, Athanasia. Homes and business, like the castle, blend in with the cavern surrounding them from the highest points to the floor of the cave where small rivers run, as though they were carved in the stalactites themselves.
According to written accounts, the city was there before the settlers, and there is no one truth on how it came to be.
A total of five paths lead out of Lortha. One to Iveril, the second city, two into Ur, the third city, and two more leading to a maze of cave systems and eventually above ground- if you can survive the trip. A hole broken in the ground beneath Lortha and leading into Ur does not officially count as one of five paths (unless it is a path to a quick and fiery death).

Iveril, Crystalline City
Perhaps even more elusive is the Crystalline City, Iveril. The hidden crystal cavern is like something out of a dream. With walls made of giant crystals, magical energy illuminates the city in shades of pink, blue, and purple. Further contributing to its dreamlike reputation, is the Princess Fia, known as the Eater of Dreams. Fia is the second living daughter of Queen Lorindiel and will become Queen of Iveril upon her passing.
The city itself is cramped, with all residents including the Princess living in the walls of the cavern to prevent disturbing the bustling miners as they harvest the crystal's magical essence that is said to enhance the magic of those who use it. Despite its unconventional setup, the city is still lively- with music and laughter as if the kingdom was never forgotten.
The magical energy emanating from the crystals has a powerful effect on those who enter. But entry should be cautioned. There is only one path, a labyrinth of twists and turns, filled with hostile creatures lurking around every corner. If one is willing to take the risk, they will find a place unlike any other.

Ur, Molten City
[in progress, thinking of a boy name]
"In Ur, we don't bury our bodies, we don't hold celebrations, and we certainly do not mourn. We burn them in the great oceans of lava so that they can provide us in death as they have in life."
The Kobaloi
The Kobaloi are a subspecies of fae that have adapted to their subterranean environment.
Their appearance varies, often lying between the appearance of a Sidhe or Duanaan. Appearances vary further depending on which city they reside in. For example, those in Iveril look more like a Sidhe, while those in Ur are much more imposing.
Kobaloi do not adhere to the same politics as the high fae, however Queen Lorindiel has sworn her allegiance to Queen Mab in the thousands of years prior to the kingdom's disappearance.
