The End of The MadMen was a battle to protect the world as we know it. It began far before Bayou Garramarisa was simply a swampy island. It began when it was known as The Kingdom of Mages. Only the prestigious of magical Masters resided here. It had potential to be the most powerful city in the world but it succumbed to the sin of greed and gluttony.

It all started when within the Council of Masters that lead the city began to feud against each other. Four of the Master Mages argued that there is untouched and unparalleled power within the dark arts that linked to demons and devils. The other four argued that the consequences would cost lives and taint the world. Eventually they threaten the Mages that they will be banned from the council and demonized if they continued their ideals. So they stopped or so they thought.

The four mages continued in their practices in secret in caves beneath the city. They studied the dark arts, necromancy, soul manipulation, demon summoning. They began building a secret following as they continued to play they’re role as council men. It was only when guards began to notice mages leaving the city at the middle of the night all at once that they began to investigate. Than the disappearances began.

Children, infants and virgins, they began disappearing at night from the very beds they slept in. The four corrupt council men slowly stopped showing up at the meetings. The connections began the four true council men knew what had been happening but it was too late. The council men rallied their battle mages and every man young and old who would wield sword and magic in one night. They marched to the gates of the kingdom as they opened them they were met with one of the corrupt council men the only one whose name wasn’t lost in history, Balphamet.

The grin that he held across his face was inhuman, that of a madman. His long deformed fingers with blackened sharp nails curled by his side with his palms facing the sky, purple flames emitting from his hands.

Balphamet began shouting to the army in a deranged unnaturally deep tone,

“You PATHETIC, WEAK, WRETCHED MEN let me introduce you to the master race”

It was clear to the Councilmen that he was no longer human. He payed the price for dabbling in the dark arts and instead of tapping into the power he became one with it. He became a demon, and so the secret following emerged from around the army. They revealed their corrupted bodies, cracked stone like bodies as if they were no longer organic. Long appendages with sharp blacken claws. Some thin like skin and bone and others absurdly large and muscular to the point of ripped skin and horn like spikes growing from them. They stood 7 feet tall some growling, others hysterically laughing or crying. The army of mages were fear and disgust, some tried to flee. When they took off a blood curling screech filled the air, everyone human could barely take it, it rung their ears enough to forced them to their knees. In response the abominations seeked the fleeing mages cutting them down quickly, they sunk their nails into the skin and muscle and tore through them slash after slash. The pebble stone road was soaked in the blood of men. The council men rallied his men and they began their enchantments to combat the abominations.

Flames flew through the sky scorching the abominations but it didn’t stop them. It was a slaughter, the council men and royal guards were the few who could hold their on against the lowly abominations but not for long. The royal guards took their sword enveloped in wind magic to sharpen the cut. They slashed at the numbers of abominations, but some were over whelm, they backed up into the main streets of the city, roof of houses and stores on either side covered with abominations. Groups at a time slowly wearing down on the few left to defend the city. All this bloodshed and yet the main threats were still at large.

They were forced to city square, a circular area with a tree burnt in the midst of battle in the middle, the abominations surrounded them. But they stopped attacking, they simply chanted as Balphamet and the three other corrupt council men showed themselves within the city square. The true council men, the great mages of the city, wore down lacking strength were faced with defeat. Balphamet cackled at it, he spoke.

“You can still join us brethren, you can be stronger, be a devil, than you could use magic. As much as you like, in return for your weak humanity. A win win you see.”

The council men gritted their teeth in rebellion. They stared at him in silent protest.

“I see how it’ll be, so be it”

Balphamet scuffed.

The council men looked to each other and nodded their heads. They bowed their heads in chanting as the abominations closed in. A enchantment circle appeared below them as tears ran from their eyes.

“You shall not corrupt this world, may the gods banish your soul for all time”

The council men spoke those last words before the kingdom was engulf in a blast of energy from underneath. The council men sacrificed themselves to evoke a incantation on the abomination and the Mad men. For as long as the four men were meant to live shall their souls be trapped within one that holds life yet never lives. So as the incantation holds the tree that stood in the city square became a prison for the mad men and their beast. The city was destroyed through the incantation’s activation and left nothing but ruins that were over grown and swallowed by the ocean and vegetation. Over the years the incantation has slowly wore away, the abominations has begun to make their returns and terrorize any who step to close to the swamp. Maybe one day the mad men will make their return as well…
