Atharax is a large and battle hardened white dragon. He is well known amongst dragonkind and riders alike, having been a leader in the Thunder from a young age. when he was ridden by Andromeda - Perséfone's maternal grandmother It was thought Atharax would have passed on when she passed such was their deep bond, but instead the dragon chose instead to move his bond to the young Perséfone who had yet to hatch an egg or claim one.

Some speculate Andromeda asked this of her dragon in order to die peacefully, knowing that her granddaughter would always be safe.
