Mylo
Mylo Caerwyn
At 23 years old, Mylo is a wanderer and an explorer with an insatiable curiosity for the world of Arethil. A collector of artefacts, a keeper of stories, and an artist at heart, he roams from ruin to ruin, piecing together the past while searching for his place in the present. Though he carries no visible weapons, his quick wit, agility, and stubborn streak keep him out of trouble. Alongside his loyal but unruly mare, Thistle, Mylo’s journey is only just beginning.
Background
Mylo was born in a quiet village near the bustling trade city of Alliria. His father, Edran, was a skilled carpenter, while his mother, Leora, was a scholar who had once studied in Alliria’s renowned libraries before settling down in their small village. While his older brother, Corvin, took after their father and worked as a craftsman, Mylo was always drawn to stories of the world beyond their village.Leora nurtured his love for history, slipping him ancient maps and books filled with tales of lost civilisations, forgotten ruins, and magical artefacts. Though his father hoped Mylo would follow in his footsteps and become a craftsman, Mylo’s hands were never meant for chisels and wood—he was meant for holding a map and a sketchbook, for tracing forgotten paths, and for collecting pieces of a lost world.
Since childhood, Mylo has felt an unnatural pull towards the unknown—an instinct, perhaps, or something more. He has an uncanny knack for finding hidden places, relics buried beneath the earth, and paths overlooked by others. His abilities extend beyond simple luck; he often feels an inexplicable connection to the objects and places he uncovers.
After his mother passed away two years ago, Mylo left the village, unable to stay in a place where her absence hung heavily in the air. He took to travelling, working as a scout, cartographer, and odd-job man for merchants or adventurers, while searching for artefacts.
Appearance
Mylo has the youthful face of someone who’s spent far too much time outdoors. His green eyes are bright with curiosity and usually framed by a dusting of freckles across his cheeks and nose. His blonde hair is often tousled from the wind and the road, with strands falling into his face despite his attempts to push them back.He dresses simply, preferring loose linen shirts and sturdy trousers for comfort, though his worn leather boots and weathered cloak always give the impression that he’s been travelling for longer than he has. He carries no visible weapons, relying on his quick thinking and ability to talk his way out of trouble. Most notably, Mylo always has his satchel filled with artefacts, maps, and his most treasured possession, his sketchbook. He uses charcoal to capture moments, faces, and places, often drawing from the world around him.
While Mylo collects artefacts as part of his travels, he’s not interested in wealth or fame. Instead, he’s captivated by the idea of preserving pieces of the past, be they ancient weapons, mystical trinkets, or forgotten scrolls. His satchel is a patchwork of objects that may or may not be significant—but to him, they’re all clues to something greater.
He is becoming increasingly aware, however, that some of the things he’s found may be more dangerous than he originally thought. Some objects hum with strange power, while others seem to call to him in ways he can’t explain.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths:
- Keen Instincts: Mylo has an innate ability to find hidden paths, artefacts, and places that others miss. He’s drawn to things with strange energy, almost as if he can sense their presence.
- Quick Thinker: When it comes to danger, Mylo is quick to act and often relies on his wit to get out of sticky situations. He’s adept at talking his way through conflict and uses his charm to disarm most threats.
- Artist & Cartographer: Mylo is skilled at both drawing and mapping landscapes, ruins, and the faces of the people he meets. His drawings often fetch a good price, especially when he’s sketching something unique or noteworthy.
- Light on His Feet: Mylo may not be a fighter, but he’s agile and quick on his feet. He’s adept at climbing, running, and slipping away when danger arises.
Weaknesses:
- Lack of Combat Skills: While Mylo has a dagger for self-defence, he’s never been properly trained in combat and is ill-prepared for a fight against a skilled warrior.
- Overly Curious: Mylo’s insatiable curiosity often leads him into dangerous situations. He’ll follow leads or explore places that are better left alone.
- Thistle: His horse, though loyal, is incredibly stubborn and often causes trouble. Whether it’s refusing to move, eating valuable maps, or simply getting in the way, Thistle can be a constant headache.
Possible Plots:
- The Truth About His Mother: Mylo uncovers a clue related to his mother's secret past, one that may tie her to an ancient order or forgotten power.
- The Artefact That Shouldn’t Exist: One of Mylo’s discoveries turns out to be more than he bargained for. It might be a key to something powerful—or it might be a curse.
- Rival Treasure Hunters: Another explorer or collector crosses paths with Mylo, and the two find themselves in a dangerous competition.
- A Lost Place: Mylo finds a map to a place long forgotten, and his journey takes him to a ruin no one has visited in centuries.
- The Fae Realm: Mylo has always believed in the existence of the Fae Realm, a place he’s read about in the ancient texts his mother used to share with him. While most dismiss it as myth or fantasy, he feels a deep, unshakeable pull toward it. The idea of stepping into that otherworld, where magic flows freely and ancient creatures roam, is a dream he can’t let go of. To him, finding a way into the Fae Realm would not only be the discovery of a lifetime—it would be the key to understanding his mysterious abilities and unlocking a truth that has always felt just out of reach.
