Living in the shadows of others used to annoy Leilani. She wasn’t born with the sharpest of minds nor did she possess an affinity with elemental magic that caused all of Thyasari to admire her.

Instead she possessed a unique set of abilities that made her a prime candidate for espionage and secrecy. By the time she finished her basic schooling all of her classmates and teachers knew she would commit to The Watchers.

They accepted her application almost immediately and she began the highly specialized training they offered to all Watchers. Now a days Leilani isn’t just used to living in the shadows of others, she practically revels in it.

Appearance

Leilani has the same pointed ears and slender frame that nearly all Avariel and other elves possess. Her blonde hair is usually allowed to sit in a messy mane that she rarely touches or styles. Piercing green eyes frame her nose and tend to stay sharp and alert.

All of her pristine and delicate features bear a stark contrast to her wings. Near their base, where they connect to her shoulders, her wings are as pitch black as a starless night. As her wings extend out they shift from black to a deep violet color near the tips.

This coloration is rather rare for an Avariel but it is said that many of the winged elves with such colored wings naturally find themselves in the employ of The Watchers for one reason or another. Almost like a marking from birth of their future fate.

Skills and Abilities

Swift Flight - One talent that Leilani always possessed, even as a small child, was the speed at which she could fly. All Avariel can be swift but Leilani is particularly adept at speed while flying. This benefits her often when she’s in too deep on a mission and must flee quickly.

Martial Prowess - It might be simpler to suggest that Leilani is rather one dimensional. She is an expert with the bow, even from great heights, but beyond that her abilities to fight are lackluster. If someone must be detained and arrested she typically has to report this back to the Elders and allow another Avariel to subdue a target.

Keen Senses - Leilani is not as academically intelligent as many of her peers but where she has excelled is paying attention. Staying alert. Being resourceful. She has proven herself an expert information gatherer with a phenomenal memory.

The Misty Mage - Leilani struggled with magic during her schooling. Unable to use healing magics or many offensive spells properly it took several years for tutors to identify her true calling.

The type of magic she excels at was eventually discovered and it perplexed many citizens of Thyasari. She could warp mist and fog to her will. Eventually this ability even allowed her to transform her physical body into mist and move around.

There are several major drawbacks to this ability. For starters, if she turns into a fog and elements of that cloud are somehow destroyed or absorbed it causes severe and debilitating pain when she reforms herself. It’s presumed that if the entire cloud was eradicated she’d likely die as well.

Secondly, while she can manifest fog from nothingness it obscures her vision as much as it does everyone else’s. If she transforms herself into mist it’s often difficult for her to see very well. However, her other senses are unaffected, allowing her to smell or hear anything going on while in mist form.

Finally, frequently de-materializing and re-materializing can cause massive headaches and muscle spasms. Sometimes so severe as to limit her ability to fly. It’s for this reason that using her magic for more than a few moments is extraordinarily rare.

The Watchers

proxy.php
The Watchers are an unpleasant necessity in Thyasari society. Secrets whispered, plots weaved, and citizens turning a blind eye. The Elder Council cannot be left in the dark. Thyasari is too fragile to chance any new surprises.”

The Watchers were formed during the chaos and aftermath of the dwarven wars and kidnapping of the three lost Avariel children who were later found mutilated and scattered across Arethil. A mixture of information brokers, spies, secret police, propaganda spreaders, and in times of war even assassins. Those who select the path of Watcher are often looked down upon as being dishonorable by some of the other castes within Thyasari society.

Leilani has spent most of her adulthood stalking and spying upon her winged brethren. Picking up hints and murmurs about life goals and their general opinion of the Avarieli government. She has more than proven herself a talented eavesdropper and can keep her lips sealed when called upon by the council for delicate operations.

With the opening of the great city of Thyasari to the outside world Leilani, and all Watchers, find themselves unusually busy.

Biography & Lore

Leilani Taevas is the only child of Skippio Taevas and Bivanya Taevas. They were initially alarmed at the coloration of her wings and even more horrified as their daughter grew up and failed to share the same prowesses they had as members of the Scholarly order of Thyasari. When she committed herself to The Watchers her father Skippio, quite publicly, insisted that he had no daughter.

Undeterred, the teenaged Leilani found an unparalleled joy in the ways of The Watchers. Being unseen, collecting information, relaying intel back to her superiors. Before long she began to idolize Elder Cornelius of The Watchers and viewed him as a sort of father figure.

Leilani initially scoffed at the idea that the troublesome firebrand, Caliane, had made contact with other races of Arethil and she privately confided in Cornelius her opposition of opening Thyasari up to non-Avariel. He assured her that the council knew what they were doing and laid out a myriad of instructions for his young protege.

In the span of a few months Leilani collected information on neighboring settlements around the Spine and kept tabs on non-Avariel who waltzed around their city. Spending much of her time in visitor areas she has slowly warmed up to the idea of humans, elves, and even dwarves sharing her home city.
