Biography & Lore

LaVaya was born on a farmstead outside Alliria, the middle child of five. Her mother worked hard and took excellent care of the children, while her father was an angry drunkard who beat his wife and children. LaVaya’s mother died when she was thirteen, and her father’s behavior only became worse; one day when he was beating LaVaya’s brother, she took his hunting knife and stabbed him in the neck, killing him. She fled, and found herself wandering the countryside, wanted for murdering her father, stealing to survive. One day, she tried to steal from a wealthy man in a roadhouse. He caught her, and used magic to hypnotize her. LaVaya became his slave, traveling with him, serving him, cleaning his clothes and much worse. He hypnotized her regularly to keep the pretty young woman in his power. He was a wealthy merchant who dealt in black market goods on the side, and LaVaya was often around smugglers and fences, and had to serve his associates as well. She spent a lot of time in Alliria serving her master. Finally, after two years of slavery, LaVaya’s master slipped up and she was free of his power; she killed him in his sleep while they were on the road, and claimed his money and possessions including an ancient and valuable book of Hypnotism. By the time she was seventeen, she was an accomplished hypnotist, using her powers for personal gain and as a mercenary. Eventually she fell in with a small guild of female assassins, thieves and spies called The Emerald Eye. Each member of the guild was a trained killer and thief, as well as a user of hypnosis. LaVaya was recruited, trained and rose to become one of their most successful operatives. Eventually she was offered the leadership of the group, but she declined, saying she needed to see the world. She is still a member of the guild, although she is very picky about her clients, and lately has been seeking the life of and adventurerer.
