As with every man’s journey, the story of Greldyrn Il Farrick is one not easily summarized, so the details of his past will be left to be discovered by the unfortunate soul who dares pry into such personal affairs.

Such an introduction leaves much to be desired, and may leave the reader with a burgeoning feeling of curiosity. Thus, in order to sate the common thirst for rudimentary details, we will begin with the important facts:

Greldyrn is a lycanthrope. By moonlight, he is a raving beast, and by day, is a husk of the dwarf he once was. Some may think that becoming a werewolf is what changed him, but this is not the case. While the acquisition of the ailment marked a turning point in his life, it was important not because of its side effects, but because of how it validated every insecurity he faced during that time. Everything that he was supposed to be was now in question, and with this curse, his supposed purpose was proven faulty.

He was not a protector.

Before, he was a man of religion, and a boy who aspired to aid those in need, but in the end, he realized that fighting for the gods was pointless. If the gods truly did exist, why let suffering take hold? What gods would allow such atrocities to exist in the world – such ill fates to befall those who have done no wrong?

To answer these contradictions, he joined the fray against darkness, and for a time, was victorious. For a time, he did protect people, and for a time, he was a bulwark to the defenseless. Still, it was only a matter of time until he was tainted.

He was not a man of religion.

It is almost ironic. He questioned the gods, and now, he was seemingly punished by them. He was one of fate’s cruel jokes now.

He was a man who promised to protect the innocent, but now could not help but slaughter them like sheep in the night.

He was man who once put himself before others, but now has resigned himself to letting the curse blossom forth, caring not for those around.

He was not a hero.

Some may have called him cowardly for living as he did instead of turning himself in to the hangman’s noose, but he saw it as wasteful. Why should he die for something that was not his fault?

There had to be something more to life than just… this.

While there was little hope left to his situation, there was no use fighting the hand he was dealt. He could only play with the cards he had left.

He is a man who is searching – for meaning, for a life – for an answer to the question:

Who is Greldyrn Il Farrick, and what is his real purpose?

Appearance

His frame is like that of many dwarves: short, stocky, and rounded features. The only difference is that he is considered to be quite tall for his kin, leaving his body well-balanced between the dwarven girth and sculpted muscle. For his age, he should have had youthful, ebony hair like his father, but the trials of time have worn him thin. Instead, his hair is gray and ashen, with thin strands of silver and black which serve as a reminder to his crestfallen status. It is long now and disheveled, tied away usually so it does not get in his face. Like all dwarves, he has a beard of respectable size that is the only feature he really cares to comb. His face is hard with a look full of skepticism. Farrick is young for a dwarf, but time has aged him. The only thing which remains of his youth are his eyes: deep green, and burning with ardor like flames in a hearth. He has not given up entirely – he had just accepted what he is.

As for attire, he has two main sets of clothing:

When he is traveling, he wears a worn, gray cloak. It is a frayed, ancient thing, marred with tatters self-sewn and stains twice-removed. Underneath, he wears the clothes of a commoner – colorless and drab. There is no point in dressing extravagantly when one's form changes with the moon. They would just get ruined anyways.

When Pneria is not full, and he can practice his trade, his attire is much different. Pressed, business-like, he wears a airy, cotton dress-shirt with sleeves rolled up. Over it, he wears a vest long outdated, and perhaps a jacket if the weather is cold. As for pants, he wears the same, standard, rugged, green pants he wore when he was a warrior, tucked loosely into his black, leather boots. On his face, or hung around his neck, he has the brass spectacles of a watchmaker with lenses of various shapes and sizes. It is dwarven-craft, and aids greatly in the creation of tools which require a finer precision.

As an artificer, his hands are pristine, and without flaw. Nails are well-manicured, and his fingers are nimble and dexterous. Greldyrn has always taken good care of his hands, even when he was a warrior. A dwarf who injures his hands is one who cannot practice his craft, and a dwarf who cannot practice his craft is a useless dwarf indeed.

This is all true for his appearance... when he is still a man.

When the full moon rises, and the affliction takes hold, Greldyrn takes on a completely different persona. Hair changes color, from an ancient gray to a more youthful, sleek coat of jet fur. Face, hands, body all become more beast-like and lupine, leaving him not a man, but a monster. He is taller in this form, and towers over most humans. No one can really tell where a werewolf gets all of its extra mass, but one thing is for certain: the ghastly frame is not just for show.

Claws sharpened, yellowed teeth gnashing – there is hardly anything recognizable about Farrick in this form. The only thing which remains unchanged are his eyes. Green, luminous, piercing, and imposing.

Skills and Abilities

This section will be brief, for the moment, as one's skill cannot be demonstrated through small summary.

He is an experienced fighter, and is extremely proficient with hand-axes and throwing axes.

He is one of the rarer dwarves, gifted with a talent for magics, but has never gone farther than his craft of artifice. In truth, he is an avid student of rune magic and its applications, and finds its uses wide and all-encompassing. With it, and his knowledge of alchemy, he has proven himself to be a cunning mage.

He is a brilliant artificer, and talented in the rare craft of clockwork. When he is not making trinkets for his customers, he is working on the curios of watches and clocks. Not many respect his line of work, but time is something that he finds very important. To waste a minute is to waste one's life.

Finally, there are sections to be left unmentioned, as they relate to the savagery of his other form. As a lycanthrope, he is quick, vicious, and strong beyond the measure of man. Pity the fool who challenges him unprepared.

Born in Bhathairk, Greldyrn is no stranger to the different peoples of Espressa and Liadain. He was a man of faith, and a man who protected those around him, but now he is neither. Instead, he wanders the continents, practicing his wares while searching for a new inspiration in life – a new purpose.

This, all while resisting his newfound malediction....
