Corin Rook
Corin Rook is an oddly tall half-elf sword for hire. Often known for her recklessness and scrappy skill with a blade. She is never one to stay in one place for long. Corin always drifts from town to town, taking on odd jobs to her stomach and wallet full. Whether it’s mercenary contracts, monster hunts, or escort jobs, she always completes the task with a burning enthusiasm.
Despite the glory and pay, she denies that its for those two simple things. Corin’s real motivation lay in the stories her mother told her as a child — tall tales of heroes, monsters, and a world far larger than the one she knew.
One figure was always at the center of those stories: a giant man driven by fire to be more than what he was, with a kind heart few ever saw. To Corin, he was a hero — someone she wanted to become, and maybe even meet, if he was as real as her mother made him seem.
Now grown, the young half-elf chases those same legends, hoping to uncover if there was truth behind the bedtime stories and, in the process, find her own place among them.

Appearance
Corin Rook is a young half-elf with a sharp, striking presence that makes her hard to overlook. Her hair is a deep copper-red, often loose or pulled up into a ponytail. Freckles dust her fair skin, standing out against the faint smudges of dirt. Her features carry the usual angular grace of her elven heritage — high cheekbones, pointed ears — but her sharp eyes, the color of amber or gold, are easily a hint of her fire giant heritage, a gift from her father.
She dresses practically. Her armor is a fitted mix of dark leather and worn steel, patched and reinforced in places but well-maintained. She wears no emblems or marks of ownership, a true sword for hire. At her side, an old sword hangs, its grip wrapped in dark red leather from years of use.
Corin’s build is lean and athletic, the kind of strength earned from constant travel and work rather than formal training. She stands tall, often with a confident — sometimes cocky — stance that shows her youth and frequently gets her into trouble.

Skills and Abilities
As is tradition for her mother’s family, Corin was trained as a skilled hunter and swordswoman. Her abilities were shaped under her mother’s guidance — a retired monster hunter — and she learned to fight and survive. From a young age, Corin learned how to fend off dangerous creatures, read signs of movement in the wild, and strike with precision when necessary.
Along with training, Corin is a capable hunter and gatherer. She’s able to identify edible plants and track game to sustain herself during long travels.
Her athletic build gives her strong endurance and physical strength. This allows her to travel long distances and endure harsher conditions more easily than other travelers.
While strong, Corin has some intelligence. She’s quick to adapt and learn new physical skills, but she lacks the patience and the caution typical of most elves. Corin more often relies on her instincts and sheer dumb luck, trusting both will carry her through whatever danger she finds herself in… usually of her own conviction.

Personality
Corin is confident, outgoing, and often a little too sure of herself. She approaches most situations with humor and an easygoing attitude, rarely taking anything too seriously — until she’s forced to. She works hard and takes genuine pride in her skill with a sword, which often leads her to act first and think later, relying on instinct and a bit of luck to get her through whatever trouble she finds.
Because of her mother’s lycanthropy and her father’s half–fire giant blood, Corin’s body runs hotter than most. She has a high metabolism and an almost constant appetite, often seen chewing on something — dried meat, fruit, or whatever she can find. Her parentage also gives her boundless energy, making her quick on her feet and rarely still for long.
She enjoys meeting new people and has a habit of talking her way both into and out of situations with a mix of charm and sarcasm. Despite her rough edges, Corin isn’t unkind. She helps others when it feels right, but would never admit to doing it out of compassion. More often than not, she’ll shrug it off with her usual excuse: “It sounded like a good idea at the time.” It’s her reasoning for almost everything she does, good or bad.
Though intelligent, Corin often lacks the foresight people expect from someone with elven blood. She prefers action over planning and loses interest quickly in long-term goals. Living in the moment matters more to her than anything else, which makes her restless by nature. She’s happiest when moving, fighting, or chasing her next adventure — especially if it pays well.
Physically, Corin bears traits from both sides of her lineage. Her ears are shorter than a typical half-elf’s, a feature she’s quietly sensitive about and tends to hide beneath her hair or a hat. It’s one of the few things that can actually make her uncomfortable. Otherwise, she carries herself with the unshakable confidence of someone who believes she can take on whatever the world throws at her.

Biography & Lore
Corin Rook, a half-elf sword for hire, known for her restless nature and determination to chase the legends of heroes and monsters that shaped her childhood. Her story begins far from the safety of any empire, born to two people whose paths could never truly align — one driven by power, the other by the desire for freedom.
Corin’s mother, Achates, left her father, Gerra, at the height of his rise to Emperor of Amol-Kalit. Though she loved him deeply, Achates saw how power was changing him. His ambition grew beyond what she could accept, and his desires turned toward things she could no longer stand beside. When she discovered she was pregnant, Achates fled, unwilling to raise a child in a world ruled by his ambition and danger.
She traveled north, searching for others like herself — lycanthropes who might understand her nature and offer safety. Her search led her to a small clan living near the edges of the Falwood. The hunters welcomed her and the unborn child, helping her through the pregnancy. When Corin was born, however, the clan decided she should share in her mother’s curse. Achates refused. She did not want her daughter to bear the same burden, so she ran again.
The clan took this as betrayal. They began to hunt Achates and her child, forcing them into a life of constant flight. For nearly five years, they hid wherever they could, chased both by the clan and by those who still remembered her ties to Gerra. Over time, Achates fell ill with a sickness that had haunted her family for generations, the result of a bloodline too tightly kept. She knew she would not live to see her daughter grow up — and that Corin, still a child, would die alone once she was gone.
Desperate to protect her daughter, Achates made a deal with a fae who took pity on her. The fae created a pocket dimension tied to Achates’ life, a place where time would pass differently — safe, untouched, and hidden. Corin would grow up inside it, unaware of what it truly was. To her, it would be an ordinary village, filled with familiar faces, a loving mother, and a peaceful home.
Within this world, Corin lived a full childhood. She had friends, a home, and a mother who taught her how to fight, survive, and dream. Every evening, Achates told her stories — tales of heroes, monsters, and faraway lands. One hero appeared again and again: a man with hair like fire, eyes that burned bright, and a heart that always sought something greater. Corin adored him, idolized him, and longed to become someone like him.
Achates told these stories to give Corin a piece of her father, though she never said his name. She carried guilt for leaving him, for denying him the chance to know his child, but she believed it was the only way to protect them both. Corin suspected the man in the stories was her father — and it made her love them even more. But she also noticed the sorrow that came after certain tales, the ones about the man and the half-elven woman who loved him so deeply that it hurt her. After seeing her mother cry, Corin grew afraid of love. She wanted to be strong like the hero, but she never wanted to feel pain like her mother did.
When Corin turned twenty-one, everything changed. Her mother fell gravely ill, and despite the peace of their village, nothing could save her. Corin buried her mother herself. Soon after, the world around her began to shift — the air thinning, the colors fading. She didn’t understand what was happening, only that something inside her said it was time to go.
Without realizing she had spent her life in a pocket dimension, Corin stepped into the real world for the first time. The home she remembered was gone, but her mother’s stories remained. Carrying those tales and the lessons Achates left her, Corin took up her sword and began her life as a wanderer. She searches for the hero from her mother’s stories, hoping to find the truth behind them — and, perhaps, create her own stories.
