The Baal'Teien people are nomadic in nature, keeping away from civilizations and keeping to their own since ages long forgotten. When a new life graces the tribe, these goat-people plant a tree sapling at the place of the young one's first breath.

The tree is bound to the youngling through a ritual, and the nomadic people leave the tree to go about their usual traveling ways. Once a member of the clan becomes 20 years old, they are sent on a quest to return to their place of birth to meet their soulbound tree.

Upon finding their tree, they are to bow to it and place their hand upon it...thus completing the ritual, and causing the tree to quickly warp and shrink into an object that the Baal'Teien will carry with them until the end of their days.

B'alui Gu'baa'ri'aa, known only among the Baal'Teien as "She Who Consumed", is a young girl in appearance who had something go horribly wrong with her ritual. Upon traveling half the continent to return to her tree, she had discovered that it was a rare pale white mutation of an oak tree that only survived by sapping the nutrients from the surrounding forest, unable to create its own nutrients due to its lack of green leaves.

Upon completing her ritual, not only did the tree itself warp and bend into the shape of a staff- it also completely devoured every other plant for over a mile around...leaving nothing but barren wastes that still remain to this day.

B'alui Gu'baa'ri'aa was too ashamed of her failed ritual to return home to her tribe, so she now roams the world...using her mighty staff to attempt to right her failures by using her tribe's knowledge in anti-magic to bring peace where needed.

Appearance

A short girl with cloven hooves for feet, and fuzzy fur up to her knees. Both her fur, and her long hair are grey and dull, but carry a noticeable shine and full look, regardless of how dirty she may be.

Her face is relatively common when compared to humans, and similar races...small face, tiny but sharp features, and very dull blue-grey eyes all fit on her head, all in between a pair of curled goat horns that remain a pitch black and point forward.

She wears a set of scholar's robes, bought from a human tailor years ago in exchange for removing the curses from a spool of expensive thread, made specifically to fit her and magically crafted to regulate the temperature inside...keeping her warm in the winter, and cool in the summer.

Skills and Abilities

B'alui, like most members of her race, follow a specific magical discipline known as "True Balance Arts". Since her tribe was nearly wiped out years ago by a powerful mage, they've spent generations honing their abilities and skills to stop anyone from suffering at the hands of magic.

B'alui always has her "Pale Staff"on her, enchanted through over 30 years of having a magical connection with it, paired with the ritual of its planting. This staff is bound to B'alui, and she knows its general location at all times. The staff is about 6 feet tall, and just wide enough for her to comfortably hold. This staff has 3 notable features

Weight: The staff weights an astonishing 110 pounds! Made from twisted and constrained wood, anyone not expecting the weight of the object will be subject to one of the hardest strikes they've ever experience. To top it off, B'alui has increased strength when handling the staff with both hands, allowing her to wield it without issue- but causing it to get in the way when held with one hand, or by any other individual

Anti-Magic wood: All staves of the Baal'Teien people come with 2 factors. Firstly, any Baal'Teien who create a staff by completing their rites are entirely unable to cast magic aside from those gifted by their staff, the staff essentially taking on all the magic from the Baal'Teien until the day they die. Secondly, the staff is near-unbreakable, even to fire! And any magical object to touch the wood of the staff begins to fade, and lose its magical properties as the staff send the magic into the earth below. This makes the staff amazing at deflecting magical attacks.

Connection to Nature: By touching their staff against a tree, any Baal'Teien can 'feel' what any trees nearby can 'feel'. In vague senses, they can understand and feel movement, and simple lighting (simply knowing if it is light or dark), and nothing else...the max range for this is 1 mile around the user.

Connection to Magic: While B'alui wields her staff, she has an acute ability to perceive magic as if it were a physical, dense fog. She can passively ignore this vision, only focusing on it when needed.
The more magically rich an object or person is, the thicker this 'fog'. Strangely, this does not obscure vision....consider it a third eye of sorts.

Ritualistic Spells

B'alui is unable to cast any magic in a quick fashion, making her unable to fight with magic at all. Instead, she knows a series of ancient magics that require minutes, sometimes hours of chanting and rituals. No breaks may be taken while casting, and must be done in their entirety to have any effect. The cost for these magics, however, is not so simple....A series of objects are required that, when mixed and rubbed onto her staff, 'unlocks' some of the sealed magic within to cast the spell. Without the proper ingredients, this magic cannot be cast, and these materials are unable to be used again.

DISPEL CURSE- (Casting Time Varies): By placing their staff onto a cursed object/person, the curse begins to fade. For every year the curse is meant to last, three hours of this ritual are required to dispel it. curses that only last a few months only take an hour to dispel.

Cost: 2 freshly plucked oak leaves or twigs, 2 drops of rain water, a spoonful of pure silver dust, and if the cursed object is alive (and has blood) this also requires a single drop of their blood.

WIND STEP- (30 minutes): By meditating in one place whilefocusing on the magic within their staff, and the wind in the air, B'alui can enhance her movements exponentially. While active she can run incredibly quick, and is remarkably light...light and fast enough to jump through the treetops with ease. However, this spell requires keen concentration on the wind itself, and should B'alui be attacked, attack something herself, or be startled by something, the spell abruptly ends.

Cost: a naturally falling leaf, rain drop, or snowflake that has not touched the earth, and a single hair from B'alui's head.

FIREPROOFING-(20 Minutes): A lump of black coal is placed at the bottom of B'alui's staff. By marking a line with this coal, no natural fire can burn the object it marks, or spread beyond it. This magical marking lasts 2 days.

Cost: A small lump of coal, a bottle of oil, a feather from any living avian (or similar species)

FORBIDDEN RITE OF LIFE- (12 hours): A forbidden art granted to her via her parasitic staff, B'alui can drain the life force from living entities...in an extremely painful, long, and downright torturous manner. Doing so WOULD extend B'alui's life depending on the creature this energy is stolen from, and heal nearly any wounds...cure any poisons....wipe any body imperfections clean...but is the price worth it?

Cost: A living entity with runes carved into their flesh who must be stationary during the process, requiring either self-sacrifice or complete and total restraining and submission...as well as a golden needle, three of the victim's pulled teeth, and the hair of someone close to the victim either by blood, or emotionally.

Personality

Generally she can be described as "Sage-like". Always calm, always steadfast and gentle in her words...never speaks up, unless she knows she must be heard and is respectful of all those around her. She speaks in an accent most in common with the real-world scottish accent.

MAJOR POINTS

*Can, and will die to complete a task she has promised to do. It is on her honor, and heritage to never accept impossible tasks, and to see her promises through their entirety. In her people's language, the word closest to 'promise' is "U'laa'aa", or "Eternal Pact". If she promises something, it would be on par with a wedding vow, or selling her soul.

*Sees herself as a failure. No matter what good she does, or life she brings, she will always see the ways in which she failed, and strive on to become better.

*Distrusts any who dabble in any form of higher, or dark magic. She trusts her own ability to counter it, but the motives of those who use these magics are an enigma to her.

*Will teach anyone anything she knows without hesitation. Knowledge, and wisdom are meant to be shared to all.

*Despite her distrust of smart races that abuse magic, naturally magical entities are to be respected and honored...even the evil ones, and even if she needs to put them to rest. The death of a fae, elemental, or otherwise is enough to send her into a depression.

*Gay...like, really into girls. But isn't sure how to feel about it....or if she's worthy of love in the first place.

MINOR POINTS

*Loves tea. L O V E S I T. But due to the fact that she doesn't carry a tea pot with her, her interactions with it are scarce...if you want her to do a job a nice cup of tea, and a meal would be more than enough payment.

*Envies those who can wear shoes. She has hooves...gross, scratched up hooves that look ugly to her.

*Can, and will smack anyone who tries to touch her staff without permission...but not without fair warning.

Biography & Lore

Born to the most ancient of Baal'Teien tribes, the Baal'Yuviten, B'alui's parents were some of the most respected within it, and made sure to complete the girl's 'binding ritual' to a mighty tree. One that will represent a strong will, and long life...the oak tree.

She grew up within the tribe at the only one in her age group, resulting in her collecting scrolls and books to read throughout the years. She grew to love her elders and eventually the smaller children that came after her.

When her time came at 20 years of age, which was still childhood to the Baal'Teien, she left home to complete the ritual that all members of the tribe had to do. To travel back to the location of their birth, where they would turn their 'binding tree' into a staff that will serve them for the rest of their days.

But, in a sick twist of events, B'alui finds that her oak tree was an incredibly rare mutation of a tree...an albino tree, to be specific. Unable to gain nutrients naturally, it sapped the magic and nutrients from all the surrounding flora and fauna.

Upon completing her sacred rite, the parasitic tree absorbed all the life that it was leeching from...for a mile around, destroying all wildlife within that area.

To have her most sacred of times, a moment to reflect on your future, be devastatingly ruined was...life changing, to say the least.

Ever since, B'alui has been traveling the world, slowly completing tasks to regain her lost sense of honor and make a living for herself..she wishes to one day meet her clan with her head held high.
