Athanasia
Protect the peace.
Appearance
Athanasia has long hair kept in loose curls or waves and nearly translucent skin. Her hair color varies, much like her sister, Fia. Though Fia's is iridescent- a shimmering rainbow, Athanasia's varies in shades of black to white. She is not as short as her Sidhe mother, but not as tall as her Duanaan father. Her height and lithe body make her look more like elven than fae. Her eyes are a clouded white, but she has not shared whether it is an adaptation to her subterranean environment or if she is truly blind. Although rarely seen, Athanasia has a pair of wings that look much like butterfly wings. The difference between her and her mother, however, is that hers may simply be an illusion. If one tries to grab them, they will find nothing but air in their grasp.
Skills and Abilities
- Sidhe blood.
- Athanasia is assumed to be biologically immortal due to her mother's Sidhe blood.
- She has no particular skill in magic, unlike her siblings and mother. It is noted that her presence is incredibly calming and one finds no difficulty relaxing or sleeping if she is nearby. Like her wings, it is difficult to determine if this is real or illusion.
Animal Form
- Athanasia can take the form of butterflies, singular or multiple.
Personality
Unlike her siblings, Athanasia appears to be very polite and mild mannered. Perhaps that was why she was chosen for the peaceful city of Lortha and they were not- she was seen as the embodiment of the city's values. Her enthusiasm and kindness make her a beloved face amongst the Nideri.
Biography & Lore
Born to Queen Lorindiel and King Gilion, Athanasia is the oldest of the queen's children and is set to inherit the throne of Lortha.
One does not wander into Lortha on purpose. Nicknamed the Slumbering City, Lortha is the first of three cities comprising the subterranean kingdom of Nid. There is no consensus on which is the true origin of the city’s name, but two theories have been considered. The first was based on the written account of the city’s presence prior to the arrival of the first modern settlers. In Efferil Cithreth's journal, as a group of lost explorers explored the stalactite-like architecture, they came upon the body of a woman, Lorindiel, sleeping on her throne. The second theory was based simply upon the eerie silence that the city offers as one approaches. Even during the liveliest of celebrations, Lortha from afar appears still and silent beneath the luminescent canopy provided by nature’s own little stars.
Lortha is the main city, housing the King Gilion, Queen Lorindiel, and one of three children. Homes and business, like the castle, blend in with the cavern surrounding them from the highest points to the floor of the cave where small rivers run in shapes that make it seem as though they were carved in the stalactites. According to written accounts, the city was there before the settlers, and there is no one truth on how it came to be.
The king and queen of Nid value the peaceful atmosphere. Despite enjoying lavish parties and city wide celebrations, there is no tolerance for disturbing the balance they have set in place over thousands of years. Art is highly valued in Lortha, especially music although there are no instruments in the city. There have been no official declarations on their stance on relationships, though it is seen favorably that both have equal contributions to the welfare of their kingdom.
A total of five paths lead out of Lortha. One to Iveril, the Crystallian City, two into Ur, the Molten City, and two more leading to a maze of cave systems and eventually above ground- if you can survive the trip.
A hole broken in the ground beneath Lortha and leading into Ur does not officially count as one of five paths (unless it is a path to a quick and hot death).
