The name Assur dra Nak'har is a title, but one that carries gravitas amongst the people of Eios. It has remained unchanged throughout the centuries, ever since it was first bestowed upon the fortunate survivors by the Dragon Shah. Upon assuming its mantle the one who bears it casts off their old name and assumes the role of the Dragon's Voice fully, its great boons and significant responsibilities. The current Assur's name is known only by a few, yet this rare knowledge carries little worth. The measure of an Assur are not the deeds of their own name, but the deeds they carry out as the direct Will of the Dragon. No one will remember their name, they will only look back at the fate they created for the people of Eios.

For now the Assur carries good will with the people and the Shah, for his fortunes seem favourable.

Of Appearance

Upon first glance the embodiment of the Dragon-Shah of Heavens appears far less like the title would imply. Assur dra Nak’har is not a fierce warrior, but a sophisticated administrator, striking a tall figure, yet appearing frail nonetheless. Many layers of fine fabric compose his armour, not scales of iron or steel. The sound of metal clanking against metal is far more subtle and soft, originating from the many decorative chains and ornaments of gold and precious stone. Furthermore he wields no weapon upon his person that are openly apparent. His skin is a lighter shade of that typically seen amongst the people of Amol Kalit’s desert cities, as is the norm for those born within Eios, his hair a brown, with a faint sheen of olive colour, and his eyes a deeper, more flat shade of brown again. His features appear sharp and patrician, adorned by a well kept long beard and moustache. The hair is kept short and covered by a bundle of cloth wrapped around his head, with various golden rings, chains of gold made from tiny rings, and various smaller feathers of different colours hanging from the bundle. His hands bear runic markings inked in black that snake their way up the top of his arms until they disappear in the sleeves of his garb.

Of Traits

As Nehakar dra Eios the vast majority of skills in the repertoire of the Assur dra Nak’har are administrative and scholarly in nature. With a penchant for the written word, the Assur has acquired a majority of his skills through extensive research within the great library of Eios. Whether the necessity of the day was a great crisis that threatened the lives of his subjects or a simple matter of correct word usage, the wisdom of literature has yet to fail the erudite ruler. Amongst the traits he appears most naturally inclined towards, rulership, a keen understanding of strategy, and charisma form the core. It may perhaps strike some as surprising to learn of the Assur’s penchant for sociability, as many might perceive him to be much more of a shut-in hermit too obsessed with his books, but he has long realised that knowledge alone cannot rule a people, words can however. This force of personality manifests itself more in his speeches than in personal dealings, however, where he tends to come across as far more reserved and quite unlike the more amiable and forthcoming ruler he displays to be in public. Nonetheless he holds great sway with his people, be it the commoners or the court, through force of personality alone.

His wealth of knowledge has served him greatly in many areas of life. On top of the core skills and pursuit of leadership and statecraft, he has cursory understanding of more practically oriented skills also, being not entirely unskilled with a blade, knowledgeable within the methods and arts of intrigue, or the weaving of arcane power. Though he prefers to delegate such matters to his closest advisors, he understand enough to save himself from foolish engagements or an inattentive mistake that would lead to an unfortunate end.

Of History

The current Assur was born to the ruling house of Ash’val several decades ago. Trained from a young age for the position of Nehakar dra Eios, he underwent extensive tutelage under many of Eios’ most capable mentors. During these years he learned the important principles and disciplines that a great ruler must master in order to be successful, guided by his own ambition to become the greatest Nehakar Eios had ever seen and fueled by the idea of expanding the city’s influence far into the forgotten world, of which word had spread amongst the higher echelons of the Dragon’s Court. Within a few decades his goal of rulership was realised, in part due to his rightful claim of the position, but in part also due to the careful manoeuvering he employed to best his detractors and opposition. Eios has seen several reforms since that day, to the great dismay of the city’s conservative faction. A greater focus on industry has created a more stable economy and with it a greater standard of living, but in the process many of the specialists and nobles were spurned. Despite this the Assur has been regarded as competent so far, able to appease both sides of the Dragon’s Court in an adequate manner.

Recent news have shaken up the people of Eios, however, with the reveal of a discovery that would change their lives permanently.
