Argós Tardus, or simply Argós, is a strong, bulky granite golem of mysterious origins that travels through different lands in search of means of his own survival.

Overview

Broadly speaking, Argós has no fixed home. He's in a continuous journey of transversing the various locations of the world of Arethil, exploring every piece of civilization and wilderness it has to offer. The golem does so for seemly no other intention than his survival, having built an entire lifestyle based on constant going back and forth to provide sustenance.

Sometimes, Argós stays in non-colonized areas such as forests, mountains, camps and alike. He often constructs some sort of base that will be able to reside him for a decent amount of time during his stay in the wilds; somewhere he is able to rest, cook, store, etc. He also undergoes in search of items such as precious gems or rare wood, venturing into caves or deep jungles. The golem may find trouble staying in the wild when basic resources (such as food) become scarce or when the weather becomes adverse (such as when winter comes). In such cases, he may find it better to instead move somewhere else.

Sometimes, Argós stays in cities and villages. His primal source of rent usually comes from the sale of what he has found in the wilderness, though it is not limited to it. The golem can also perform jobs - like heavy menial works - or go onto quests - like venture into ancient ruins in search of precious artifacts. His money is mostly spent on local residence and essential goods. At some point, usually when such money runs out, he leaves the urban area and moves somewhere else; that is, he goes back to the wilderness.

Overall, Argós is a strong golem who has developed a great capacity to do hard tasks such as building structures or mining, and has found his own ways to get through unknown and non-civilized lands and survive without the comforts of civilization. His awareness of the world around him, its' denizens and its' cards that is able to pull when it wants to have shaped him down to core aspects such as abilities, personality and identity.

Physiology & Appearance

In many ways, Argós is the typical bulky golem, but with major differences that make him stand out among most constructed beings.

Argós' body strongly mimics that of a typical muscular human male, though with still a few differences in muscle arrangement in areas such as torso and arms. The golem's head is the one part of the body that stands out, having only one eye with a shiny, white pupil; a big mouth with sharp "teeth"; and spikes on the top of the head and under the jaw/on the chin. Noticeably, the ones on the top are smaller and in bigger quantity than the ones on the bottom.

Argós is made out of granite. His body has a coarse-grained, crystalline texture, where the minerals all have small, equal sizes and form irregular surfaces with edges that are more pronounced than those of the average human skin. Said irregularity happens because the granite hasn't been "leveled" out, as it happens with kitchen countertops.

Because his body is made out of granite, Argós is able to sustain heavy external pressure/weight and is very strong. In fact, he can carry weights and cause damage via attacks with a capacity that is multiple of that of an average human. Most of the tools the golem uses are bigger in size, and holding them doesn't cause imbalance.

The density of granite makes Argós a very heavy creature. This translates into louder than normal footsteps and in a mildly slower walking pace. This doesn't mean the golem can't run; but it does interfere in stealth. Overall, the golem's footsteps are slower and louder.

Differently from other golems, Argós is able to do things that, theoretically, only non-artificial humanoids are able to do. For example, he's able to drink or eat, and get the effects of potions, enhanced foods or even poison. In fact, he actually needs to eat, otherwise, he'll suffer from starvation. Same for drinking. He also had a natural regeneration capacity, with his body being able to heal cracks with the same ability as a human body would have to heal wounds.

Perhaps the most surprising is that he possesses a level of conscience similar to a typical human, instead of being a mindless puppet. He has his own set of ideas, fears and desires, and has free will to choose his course of action. Should one try to sense for a soul residing within the granite body, they will discover an entity made out of a mysterious substance, but which acts just like a normal spirit. Notheless, it isn't known what this substance is or what role it plays in the golem's internal mechanisms.

Overall, Argós doesn't undergo through the process of ageing. For him, there is no such a thing as childhood, adolescence or adulthood, though it can be understood as if he's in an eternal state of adulthood. Therefore, there's no limit to the golem's life expectancy. Argós will die when his granite body fully breaks and/or the soul leaves it.
