Appearance

Nim is abnormal by the standards of the Komodi. Unlike the norm, she does not have four digit hands with claws. Her hands more accurately resemble that of a human's with five digits bearing nails. Likely a product of the union of her mother and the unknown species that her father was. Despite these and a few other small differences (webbed toes and her skin coloration, for example), she still possesses the typical Komodi trait of scaled skin, a tail, horns rising from her head, and the glands which allow her to breathe fire. She is lithe, but muscular and has developed a female outward appearance.

Skills and Abilities

Clou Disease: First and foremost, a negative skill granted by her mother's species, this disease causes the loss of skin pigmentation over time and will eventually cause her to go blind. Her blotch is located on her left hip.

Musician: Not having claws for hands has led her to be very skilled in playing the lute. Enough so that she can make enough to live by, though just barely. She'll never be able to own a home with the coin she brings in, but at least she is satisfied in her skill at making people happy.

Swordsmanship: In order to protect herself, she had to take up the sword. In doing so, she became quite good with the blade, opting for a shortsword and shield rather than a longsword or any other blade. This combination led her to jobs as a sell-sword when people needed it. She's done some not so good things over the course of her life, but only so she could survive.

Fire Breath: Like all Komodi, she can breathe fire due to the glands inherent in her species.

Swimming: She's a surprisingly gifted swimmer, likely thanks in part to her webbed toes. She's also able to hold her breath for a significant amount of time, allowing her to swim greater distances underwater than would normally be imagined for her species.

Personality

Nim grew up an outcast from her own people as a byproduct of her appearance. Even her own mother wanted nothing to do with her. She has developed a fear of abandonment as a result and is sometimes very clingy to those she would call a friend. She tends to avoid those of her species because of the status of being an outcast of her clan, which has created a negative connotation for her wherever she goes.

In most situations, she is silver-tongued and quick-witted. She can often talk her way out of the bigger messes that she might get into, even if the mess is purely accidental and she's caught off-guard. Generally, she is friendly and unassuming with anyone who isn't a Komodi or Human. She harbors no ill-will to any species other than the latter of the two. Never would it be possible for her to accept a Human as a friend. The pain they caused to her people was too grievous.

Biography & Lore

Nim was born at The Mountain of Glass. It was located in the Spine, and was only given that name by her people because of its propensity for being very icy and cold. From what little her mother told her, their clan had been hiding there from a group of human miscreants who decided they didn't like them traveling near their settlement. That was all she had ever learned of the matter, though, as even her mother wouldn't talk to her much after she was born.

Despite that all, she was a happy, healthy child. Nobody in the clan would speak to her so she often ventured out of their encampment, which led to interesting encounters with dwarves. She actually rather liked them and found their gruff nature kind of funny. They kept her entertained, and one of them even gave her the first sword she ever laid hands on. She no longer has it, but it still brings back fond memories of their people when she thinks of it.

Over time she drifted away from her home and took up playing the lute. At first, it was just a way to pass time when she stopped to rest, but she met a bard along her travels who taught her more of the instrument and she actually became quite good at it. In this way, the playing of the music became a method for her to make a few coins from people passing by who might stop to enjoy the tune she played. Every so often someone would hire her to play at an event, but this was rare. The stigma associated with her species was ever present regardless of where she went.

She traveled much of the land, searching for something to do, but mostly trying to figure out who, and what, her father was. Since her mother would not tell her before she left, she has little to go on aside from her oddly webbed toes and the fact her hands are abnormal for her species. The only real goal she has in life is to find this one thing out about herself and perhaps have children of her own someday, regardless of the partner, but she is still young and feels like traveling more than settling down.

At present, she can be found just about anywhere where music is sought after or people need a blade on short notice.
