Overview

Purpose

Dragon keepers are of different backgrounds, races and abilities, but they are all united with a common goal: to protect dragons. Their motives for this might be different, some of them might want to study these beast closer, some are led by love for these mighty creatures, some by their past, some by some other relations. Nevertheless, in a world where dragons are few and feared, they strive to be a safe haven for them.

Structure

Dragon keepers are a small commune, similar to a village, in the north west of the Spine. They have no set leader, but generally founders and older dragons are respected the most and asked for any advice other members might have.

They have no official governing bodies, as there are few enough members for everyone to have a say in the major decisions they make regarding their organization. Mostly all members have a high level of independence, as long as they follow the aims of the dragon keepers.

History

Background

Once upon a time there lived a dragon named Sathirena. She was an ancient beast, a broodmother, who laid great many of eggs. When an undead legion became her doom, her brood was left without care and protection, in the hands of the faith.

And faith brought together the first dragon keepers, who became the caretakers for these eggs.

Their first steps weren't easy. They were few, the eggs were a great many, and there were creatures who did not wish them success. Yet they persisted, they fought the foes of the dragon kind and showed kindness to these beasts. Soon their ranks started to grow, and they settled in a valley in the Spine, hidden from the outside world, but not unfriendly as it might seem. Yes, most of the newcomers here were of the dragon kind, but they also were ready to open their arms for new members as well as those needing assistance.

And so their commune settled in the Spine. Still young, still learning, but ready to overcome any hardships and bring dragons back to Arethil in their full glory.

They are as different as the creatures they care for.

Dragon keepers spend most of their time saving dragon eggs and young dragons that have been endangered, raising the said dragons. To do this as best as they can, they use assistance of older dragons as well are constantly striving to learn new things about these creatures.

Becoming one of them isn't all that hard, if one knows about their existence in the first place and is ready to dedicate their life, or at least a major part of it, to taking care of dragons. Existing members are usually quite welcoming are ready to teach their younger companions the secret of their craft.

Many of the dragon keepers are dragon riders as well, although not all of them. For a dragon to allow to ride itself there must exist a very close trust between a keeper and the beast, and it is not easy to gain such relationship.

Although it is not their main goal, dragon keepers are not closed to giving help and refuge to those who ask it from them, as long as it doesn't harm their dragons in any way.

They are often confused as dragon hunters which is something they despise. Some of them have a background in hunting dragons, but it is something that they try to get as far from as possible. No kind of violence against dragons is tolerated.

Although many dragon keepers spend majority of their time in their base at the Spine, others tend to travel around more, looking for more information about dragons or gathering rumors about abandoned eggs or dragons needing assistance.
