Skills and Abilities

Miane is skilled in management in a variety of areas: she maintains a small keep with a decent amount of private soldiers in her employ, as well as several servants who maintain the household.

Physical

Miane is a skilled swordswoman and falconer.

Magical

As a witch in hiding, Miane has not honed her numerous magical abilities as much as she would like. Her greatest magical skill, though, is her ability to merge her mind with animals for a short period of time, and see through their eyes and communicate with them. She is able to do this with greater ability and for longer amounts of time with her familiar, a barred owl she saved from an inept falconer at a market in Kherkhana a few years before. She calls her owl familiar Akea.

Miane is able to work some minor spells of various kinds, and has an un-honed talent for divination.

Personality

Miane is, above all, stoic. But if something ignites her ire she can be quite sharp-tongued. She is most content alone with her owl-familiar, deep in the wilderness.

Biography & Lore

Backstory

Miane is an only child, the last of a long, ancient line of falconers. Her ancestral home is an ancient keep high in the Sereti mountains, and her family's presence there predates the formation of the Shtakmat State. While they have strived to live peaceably with the Sahiya, the women of her family have always had to hide their secret abilities as witches once the Shtakmat State established its power over the region.

Miane's mother, though, died in childbirth, despite her father's desperate attempts to get her to a physician in time. As Nineban was the closest town to their keep, and despite the physician's best efforts, only the child was able to be saved. As such, Miane is a self-taught witch, and her powers and knowledge have several gaps which need to be filled.

Her father passed away after a prolonged illness a little less than a year ago, and Miane has been managing the training and sales of the falcons since that time, though she'd been studying the art at her father's side for her entire life. They maintain a small household with a few servants and several armed guards, all of whom are fiercely loyal to Miane, though none of them know she is secretly a witch. A couple of them suspect, however.

Soon, Miane will have to make some choices about where she wants to take her life: whether she wishes to continue her family's business and continue raising falcons, or seek out a teacher to hone her powers.

Family Business

While witchery is a craft passed down on her mother's side of the family, falconry comes from her father's side, and the two skillsets found a home within Miane. However, she rarely combines her magical abilities with her actual falconry unless she needs to urgently communicate with one of the birds she is raising/training.

Every couple of years, she (and her father, when he was still alive) would take the birds they've trained and travel to either deliver trained falcons that had been commissioned by people, or to outright sell them in markets. They tended to travel most often to, of course, As Nineban (since it is closest to their home), and then a circuitous route to Kherkana, Lazular, and then Elbion, before returning home.
