"It is imperative to understand that light--like all elements--is neither good, nor evil. It simply is. The Runestone of Light has always had an obscure provenance with scant historical documentation scattered throughout Arethil's arcane libraries." - Ancient Agents of the Arcane, as transcribed by Artamese Prewitt

Appearance

Celine has chocolate brown skin with long, dark hair often intricately braided and pinned. Her eyes are a lighter brown, often cited as warm despite her standoffish disposition. She is petite, lithe and athletic--preferring to wear breeches, hooded tunics and quilted vests in gleaming silver and white during the day, and muted dark colors in the eve.

Skills and Abilities

"Even the best cooking pot will not produce food."

Her Nazrani heritage and upbringing affords Ceiline the skills of a hunter; Quiet footfalls, acrobatic feats and a graceful lithe allows her to track and hunt with lethal efficiency. Known to some as an avatar of retribution, Celine often uses rune she guards to balance the scales between the metaphorical light and darkness in the world of Arethil.

Receiving an education in medical and agricultural pursuits, Celine is interested in restoring the lands and utilizing her arcane gifts to solve problems of erosion, forest reduction, the desolation of coral reefs by slaver ships as well as the toxic wastes of neighboring continents and their impact on Arethil's society. In turn, she is an excellent consultant on healing, poisons and antidotes, and often takes on the task of excising more difficult maladies such as tumors and growths, necrotic flesh, cauterizing wounds and minor gashes with concentrated pulses of light.

The Runestone's gifts are still a mystery explored, one that she prefers not to lean too heavily upon. Celine's mantle as the Guardian allows her to manipulate and control light, able to manipulate its frequency and intensity as well as manifest constructs made of light and to exercise limited capabilities of focusing on intense beams of electromagnetic radiation as well as photon blasts.

At night, it grants Celine the ability to see clearly. It obscures her presence, ensuring her already quiet steps are silenced. She is able to bend light to confuse or conceal herself from adversaries temporarily. Combined with droplets of water, Celine can cast brief illusions to further confuse or elude her adversaries.

Personality

"What if there were second chances? Third chances? Fourth chances? Would you eventually be able to save the world from darkness? From people who would destroy one another? Would you even want to? Faith has two ends."

One of the quieter and more reserved of the Guardians of the Runestone, Celine is considered unwavering with her moral compass. Skeptical of most she encounters, Celine speaks unabashedly when the circumstances call for it, but rarely does she speak with ill intent or outward harshness. Her friendship is freely given to those who have earned it, and it has been noted that her personality is as polarizing as the element she fiercely wields and protects.

Divinely guided, Celine is deeply religious, often taking omens and cosmic signs to heart and allowing them to guide her through life. More often than not, she is offering a Nazrani proverb or superstitious belief as a means of common sense. She has a keen ability to pick up when someone is being honest or deceitful, but she is far from a mind reader or empath.

Biography & Lore

"For tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today."

Born Vala Khanyisile, descended from the Falma tribe, Celine's blessed profession as a Guardian led to the traditional change of name to protect her tribe and homeland, accepting she would never truly be welcome among the native Nazrani. Raised as a noble, she used her position to further her education and reach towards territories with lesser. Though she was born in the city of Valenntenia, the newest Guardian eventually branched out and back close to her roots in northern Āina o Ka Lā to assist turning the tide on some of the ecological and social disasters plaguing the archipelago as well as to combat the threat of slavers that prey among the inhabitants of her world.

By day she is a herbalist who specializes in medicine and poisons, widely regarded as a healer-figure. By night she is a vigilante that protects the people by casting light on the darkest parts of her world and ruthlessly eradicating those who would take the runestone and use it for their own nefarious purposes, often citing that the night is her favorite time; when the world is restless and the sinister prey on the innocent who are in need of protection and a guiding light...
