Devils are entities that are born from the fragments of souls and chaotic essence of the world. They are endless, unable to die due to told age. Devils are strong by default, one of the existences on top of Arethill, but their true power can only be utilized via a contract- That is, unless they are willing to trade their lives.

Appearance

Devil's can vary in appearance, their physical appearance changing based on the "base" soul that was used to create them in the Nether. Regardless of which race they appear as, there are several defining traits of a Devil.

All devils have horns on their head, varying from one to many, as well as parts of their body that are vibrant colors that one would never expect on a humanoid. Bright blue arms, ruby red torso, eyes that glow gold, the options vary. Some sport wings, though most do not, and have body markings and tattoos that seem to be an innate part of their skin.

Habitat

Devils, once born, are locked into the Nether. They can only come to the world if summoned by a ritual. Rituals themselves are terribly difficult to target specific Devils, and only Devils who reside in the Nether can be summoned that way.

Once in the world, however, Devils can stay as long as they'd like, unless banished back to The Nether through their defeat, or through a contract which is agreed upon.

Traits

Due to the fact that Devils can be formed from any base soul, there are no defining physical traits that have not already been explained. They come in all shapes and sizes, some of them appearing fit and others quite gluttonous. However, all Devils share with them an innately curious nature.

This nature, however, is often directed. Each Devil finds themselves obsessed with something, though what that is varies from Devil to Devil. Some can be obsessed with specific things, such as food or gold. Others find themselves obsessed with sadism or sexual desires, others still finding fascination in rage and toying with mortal lives.

Most Devils can not be considered good upon birth, due to the nature of their existence. They are evil, or chaotic neutral, and often driven by a sense of rage or anger that is as much a part of them as their very heart.

Some, however, can be born good, or can learn how to become neutral or kind. These cases are certainly rare, but they have been recorded in recent history.

Regardless of alignment, all Devils respect power in its various forms. They will not bow to it necessarily, but they will respect those who achieve levels of power which demand awe.

Lore

Devils have been found in various religions throughout time. Entities who match the Angels, some of whom find footing with the Gods. Those who know of them usually know of their worst stories, and most heinous interferences with the mortal realm.

The most well known Devil of all, Lucifer, is who most other Devils are often compared to. Innate evil is assumed, and trust is hard to earn for most Devils once identified.

The truth though is a simple one. The realm of Mortals, and even the Gods themselves, sometimes commit atrocities that far outweigh what anyone could predict. Beings who decided to experiment with ways to completely destroy an entities soul, the basis of what allows for life and the core of many existences.

When torn apart, these shreds of what was once a persons essence do not simply vanish, as perhaps once thought. Even when consumed, processed, the fragments of soul slip out of the influence of mortals, and out of the sight of Gods. They wind up in a place that exists alongside both-

The Nether.

And as it turns out, souls have an innate desire to be whole. These fragments, torn asunder as they were, come together in order to bond and fuse. Once these fragments become whole, they form an existence much greater than the sum of their parts; this is what grants Devils their strength.

However, it does not come without cost. These souls are scarred from the circumstances that put them there, forming the basis of why Devils are often born the way they are. They are also unable to freely travel to and from the Nether, now that they are whole. Only when someone attempts to summon a Devil, accidentally opening the way for escape, will Devils flock to try and be the one who escapes.

And then, once in the world, it truly depends on each individual circumstance.
