Anamnesic Amber
Also known as a memory stone, Anamnesic Amber is an enchanted resource that can be created, given the proper skill and discipline. It is prepared by taking a piece of raw amber, carving runes onto its surface, and imbuing it with magic. The Knights of Anathaeum have long practiced this enchantment as part of their Pursuit of Flame. However, they are not the only ones who know how to prepare this enchantment, and the mages of Elbion can produce a similar material.
Once primed correctly, chunks of Anamnesic Amber can absorb a single image or memory from any person who touches them. That memory then becomes 'engraved' within the gemstone. The engraved memory can then be replayed as light emitted from the crystal. This light must have something to project onto to be visible, such as a wall, or smoke.
The gemstones cannot be re-written with new memories, meaning they have limited use as a means of conveying information. The most popular form of Anamnesic Amber is for personal mementos. Pendants, rings, or bracelets set with anamnesic amber are gifted to family members, engraved with the faces of loved ones or fondly remembered moments.
Such gifts are rare and highly valued in many places throughout Arethil, though the substance seems to be more common with the Valen Wilds region. This may be due to the fact that the Astenvale Monastery freely gives memory stones out during their largest festival of the year. Certain enterprising wizards fear this may devalue the enchanted stones, and many a letter of complaint has been written on the subject.
