Personality
An arrogant liar of a street rat who pretends that he’s a much greater and more important person than he actually is. His temper is short and he has a greedy behavior, stealing anything shiny or valuable. Despite his lack of wisdom, he’s a clever boy and a fast learner. He can improvise under pressure. He’s even a bit of a sweetheart, though he desperately tries to hide it, afraid of showing weakness. Kip never lets himself cry or feel sorry for himself, as that is also a sign of weakness.
Biography & Lore
His father did his best to take care of young kip. They lived in a garbage tiny home at the shadier side of Elbion and managed to make ends meet. One day his father got sick and they couldn’t afford to pay for the medicine. When his father died, Kip was shoved out of the house and left to die in the streets. Luckily, a fellow street rat took pity on the six year old and took him under his wing. The older kid’s name was Red and typically took care of the other orphans, teaching them how to steal and beg. For four years the two were inseparable. Each day was a struggle for survival but it was easier with Rid by his side. They even gave each other last names, not really understanding the purpose of it but knowing it was important. They came up with Red Lion and Kip Scorpion. Not really caring about the meanings of the name, just choosing it because they thought it sounded cool.
One day, the earth began shaking followed up by an ear-shattering roar. Then there was silence. Kip remembered sitting next to Red, sharing a cookie they had both stolen and talking about the weird stuff that was happening. Then another earthquake and the sounds of screams in the distance. Another roar. People began fleeing. Red and Kip knew better than to stick around screaming people and began to run themselves. Red was just behind Kip but collapsed. Kip watched in horror as his friend seemed to grow older and shrivel up into a disgusting corpse. He reached out and was about to touch his friend when a black ooze seemed to grow and cover the body.
Kip ran. Terror finally overtook his mind and he bolted away from his friend. The world around them seemed to crumble and fall apart as gravity itself seemed to no longer exist. He dodged and weaved the falling buildings and bolted away from the oozing monsters. He collapsed just outside of Elbion. When he woke up, the devastation of the city remained. When he looked to his hands and arms, he discovered he had turned invisible. He was terrified but he quickly turned to normal visibility after a few seconds.
He ended up living in a village near Elbion that had been fortunate enough to not be in the path of the massive dragon. Refugees and survivors poured into the village. There wasn’t enough to go around and the one tiny orphanage in the village was flooded with children. Kip ended up stealing from everybody else to help feed himself and the other orphans.
Eventually Elbion was safe once more, though the damage done by the dragon was still visible if one knew where to look. Kip returned with a few other street rats and orphans. He began teaching them how to steal and beg, like Red had done for him. Kip also began training his new abilities and using them to get away with higher schemes than just pickpocketing. Every coin went back to his fellow street rats. He learned to take care of them, trying to be the guardian they desperately craved for. He began saving the coins that weren’t used for food or clothes in hopes he could send his friends to Ragash where he heard that orphans could get an education, food, and a home.
