Adalric Merlon
Appearance
Adalric Merlon is a weathered, somewhat unkempt man of middle age. Put him in the cloak and light armor of an Ashdeller woodsman and he'd pass for one with ease.
Skills and Abilities
As an upper-class son of Ashdell, Adalric was raised with the sword, the bow, and the pen. He's a capable freshwater sailor and woodsman. He has no magical talents and only minimal and theoretical College Magic - enough to understand what others do, but not enough to replicate it. He usually has court magicians for that sort of thing.
Personality
Adalric is a determined, stubborn leader with an indefatigable work ethic. He feels his peoples' more acute struggles keenly. His top priority is Ashdell's security, located as it is between a nearby Portal Stone and a major waterway, in reasonable striking range of Molthal. To that pragmatic end he willingly pays tribute to nearby Belgrath, as his ancestors have done for hundreds of years. Like many members of the House of Merlon, he studied abroad in his youth - Belgrath, particularly. He speaks Dwarven dialects fluently, and most of his close friends are Dwarves. His training is as a jeweller.
Biography & Lore
Adalric Merlon lost his two older brothers in a boating accident shortly before the oldest was meant to take the throne. Adalric, who'd studied as a jeweller's apprentice in Belgrath, became king almost overnight. Some believe he arranged his brothers' deaths; he didn't, and more than one gossip has sparked lethal fury as a result.
Adalric became a pragmatic and effective leader relatively soon. He has led Ashdell to regional prosperity for over three decades. Mirielle Merlon is one of his children, albeit one he hasn't fully understood in years.
