Appearance

Florinthe is nothing short of beautiful. Where she goes, people stare. A lithe and lean figure, she seems almost slight and delicate to the untrained eye, yet her body is composed of sheer sinew and muscle - the pinnacle of health. Her hair falls messily to her nape and is the colour of rich and dark obsidian - swallowing all the light that falls upon its shaggy surface. Her face angular with sharp cheekbones and a high nose, somewhere in her ancestry an elf was at play and their features display prominently in Florinthe. Yet the crowning glory of this woman is the eyes. A warm and gentle sky blue, they sit perfectly within her face and seem to glisten like two sapphires.

Her attire, however, betrays her. Instead of flattering, well-fitted silks and cloths, she chooses to don well-made and sturdy leather armour. Even in casual climates, she is rarely seen without her murky brown armour. At her back she carries several spears - often ranging from five upwards - giving her the appearance of a sort of porcupine at certain angles.

Skills and Abilities

Despite her young age and inexperience, Florinthe has made a name for herself amongst the newest cohort of Dreadlord recruits as a literal force of nature.

Having been granted instruction by the greatest teachers and martial experts alive, her skills within the physical arts have grown to mark her a formidable opponent. Unlike many of her peers and Dreadlords, however, she eschews the traditional sword and bow approach and fights solely with an assortment of spears that she carries about her person. While initially, she chose this weapon for its reach, enabling her to close an often lack of skill against other apprentices, in her years at the academy she has watched her familiarity and skill with the weapon begin to border on masterful.

Likely as a result of her past, her skill in magic was often fraught and unpredictable. However, her time spent practising with the spear enabled her an outlet and a solution. Florinthe possesses powerful wind and storm magic, yet deep-seated emotional blocks and triggers prevent her from unleashing the fullest extent of this. Instead, she channels her wind magic through her spears, swirling and manipulating them around her, letting her challenge numerous foes simultaneously.

Despite this, Florinthe's true capability lies within the long-range. Wielding javelins, or similar projectiles, she is capable of condensing the wind around projectiles and creating a contained vortex of swirling air. Not only does this give the weapon incredible, destructive, properties but it enables her to carve the path of the projectile and make any last-minute alterations long before it strikes its intended target.

As previously mentioned, Florinthe is capable of possessing storm magic, however, her skill of this discipline is low and she can rarely manifest anything aside from a few bolts of lightning or imbuing her blade temporarily.

Personality

Florinthe is a surprisingly reserved and quiet individual, even those closest to her can struggle to converse at times. While open to co-operation and teamwork with other Dreadlords, she remains almost distanced from her peers and seems content to remain a sort of aloof anomaly within the organisation. That said, it is not too uncommon for her to engage in merriment and humour with her fellows, especially if there is some level of alcohol involved.

One such reason for her cold and reserved nature might be due to her analytical nature. Florinthe is constantly assessing and reassessing the current situation around her, her mind trying to anticipate several moves ahead and prepare her for any eventuality that may arise. Although, as a result, those who have managed to coax her into a conversation and noted that she, almost always, seems on edge and ill-at-ease whatever her surroundings.

Biography & Lore

Little is remembered by Florinthe of her childhood, she has no recollection of her parents, family or anything of the like. In a sense, she was raised by pirates, how and why she ended up as a rogue she does not know. Until the age of 10, she was nameless and simply referred to by the name "Useful" by her captors. They'd informed her she'd been bought and, shortly after doing so, they began to notice the wind became favourable to them.

In the years since buying this young girl, the pirates had grown from a single ship to a small flotilla of armed and experienced sailors captained by The Red Hand. Vessels become easy prey when the wind is always at your tail and, with Florinthe at their side, the wind was always behind them. The first few years were the best, unsure of how best to protect and maintain this boon they treated her like a queen and she was given the best food, clothes, jewellery - anything the pirates thought to appease this embodiment of the weather.

However, after a battle turned sour, with many of the ships lost, The Red Hand realised his treatment of Florinthe was irrelevant and that as long as she remained on board so too did her blessing. She found herself chained to the crow's nest, fed the remnants and scraps the crew didn't want and left unprotected to all the elements the sea has to offer.

Florinthe found her life changed, for the better, when The Red Hand launched a vicious attack against an unsuspecting nobleman's ship during an intense storm. The ship in question was protected by a single Dreadlord, and her future mentor, Althea Alires. Swarmed by countless vessels the Dreadlord stood defiantly, singlehandedly warping the storm and sinking countless ships with vicious winds and terrifying lightning - yet not the Red Hand's flagship. As the vessel crept closer and closer, the Dreadlord stood perplexed. Her arcing bolts of lightning seemed to divert perfectly around the vessel and, similarly, her gales turned into gentle breezes. The woman saw the terrified child emitting tremendous magic and immediately guessed the reason for her failures.

Florinthe remembers little else from that day, she awoke almost a week later within the Academy and - despite her advancing age - she was quickly enrolled into the Dreadlord academy. While adjusting to civilisation, to rules and constant training proved to be tricky she found herself enjoying it more than her years of bondage and she soon revelled in the harsh and relentless regime that was foisted upon her. By the age of 18, she had completed her training and was named a third-level Dreadlord - a year into her promotion, however, and she knows she is destined for better.
