Erren Serris
Erren Serris, a mage born and raised in the grand city of Elbion, is a prime example that talent, dedication, skill, and hard work will get you nowhere if you make the wrong enemies. Formerly a Maester of the Second Order within the College of Elbion, Serris has since lost his title, as well as the financial support of his family, and now operates as a sort of 'field agent' for the College; The grand establishment is always seeking new artifacts to add to its vast collection for both study and for the sheer spectacle and bragging rights of possessing them. Erren Serris is their collector, sent out to places suspected of holding items of arcane power with the task of retrieval and delivery to the College.
In addition to collection, Erren is also responsible for investigating and reporting magical disasters to the Foard of Maesters. Such disasters are defined as any event in which the use of magic has resulted in mass destruction or excessive loss of life. While Serris has the full authority of the College on these tasks, he is forbidden from making his association with the school known, perhaps in attempt to avoid political conflict, and very rarely receives any support in his endeavors. That such a dangerous assignment is given to one whom is no longer officially considered a Maester is often looked upon with raised brows, the truth of the jobs set before him are far darker, tying into the reason he was ousted in the first place.
Appearance
Erren Serris is a middle aged human male with dark hair on his head, lip, and chin, albeit with grey patches beginning to show through, a tell-tale sign of his increasing age. A slim figure with broad chest and shoulders, he prefers to wear lighter clothes that do not betray his well-versed nature in the arcane as the stereotypical robes or cloaks perhaps would. His usual attire is a dark brown pair of trousers, knee high boots with golden buckles, and deep blue colors on top, the style of dress often changing to suit his current location.
Skills and Abilities
Erren is a skilled mage, with knowledge in a wide variety of spells and arcane teachings. Chief among them is his unique probability magic. Serris has the ability to shift the odds of any scenario he sees fit, nudging the least likely of outcomes to be more likely, drawing magical energy and channeling it to tilt the scales in whatever manner suits his needs. There is, obviously, a limit to this. Erren cannot manipulate chance so much as to guarantee any one outcome, and using the ability requires a clear line of sight and deep focus. Therefore, it's somewhat impractical in a fight.
Personality
Erren is an outgoing, friendly, and playful person. Never having trouble making friends, Serris is well liked by most of his peers. Despite his sunny disposition, Serris is extremely serious about his work, and does not take affronts to his assignment lightly. The goofy and aloof attitude he often presents hides a very confident and determined soul underneath.
Serris is deeply analytical, preferring to think carefully about choices before making them. His power of observation is sharpened as a reult of this, and he often notices small details that others may easily miss. Coupled with a strong moral compass, Erren rarely allows anything he deems as wrong or distasteful to slide, often to a stubborn degree.

Biography & Lore
Erren Serris was born in Elbion to Roderik Serris and Paola Serris, (nee' Wellock), as the youngest of two brothers. As a very young child, he watched as his brother Leos excelled within the College that both of their parents had also attended before marrying. Leos was the pride of the Serris family: and extraordinary mage, a wonderful man, and a doting brother and son. No matter what happened, he was always there for his family, and Leos was Erren's hero. One day, however, Leos stopped coming home. Erren had been to young to understand what was happening, he only knew that his parents were despondent, weeping day after day for what must have been months. So too did Erren weep. With time though, he would eventually grow to be curious about the circumstances in which his brother had vanished. Often he would ask his parents, and never would they give him an answer. It grew to the point that bringing up Leos's name at the Serris home would earn you only sharp looks and a scolding.
Life moved on without his older brother, and eventually the time came for Erren to follow in his brother footsteps and apply for enrollment into the College of Elbion. Initially, Roderik and Paola seemed reluctant to allow their only remaining son to participate in arcane studies, but Erren persisted. He would be accepted, and attended his first class at the College at age seventeen.
Eager to learn, certainly, but also with his own agenda in mind. Serris had resolved to become a powerful user of the arcane, to gain status and power within the College and use that status to learn the truth about what had become of Leos all those years ago.
Initially, Erren stumbled through his studies clumsily, showing very little of the natural skill that his brother and parents had. Even five years after his enrollment, the teachers and the Foard had deemed him to be nothing more than a mediocre academic with less-than-average practical ability in magic.
It was that sixth year that got their attention.
Realizing that he was academically faltering, Erren began to work on a unique area of study that began to draw eyes to him. While only average at most forms of magic, Serris developed a method of using the arcane to manipulate the properties of chance; the art of Probability Magic. Through this method of magic, one could shift the odds of nearly any event, albeit only to a point. The unlikely result of a scenario would become more likely, and vice versa. In this school of thought, Erren excelled like no other.
With the success he began to have with probability magic, his performance in other areas began to increase as well. Finally hitting his stride, and making up for the years he'd lost to mid-level performance, Erren was accepted as a Maester of the First Order at age twenty-eight, and then rose to the Second Order at age thirty-eight. It was expected by many that this rise would continue in another ten years, as well.
Alas, only a year after rising to the Second Order, Erren Serris was stripped of his title and authority within the College. In lieu of being completely outcast, he was instead assigned to Artifact Recovery and Magical Disaster Investigation. Two unenviable, often dangerous jobs. Erren and The Foard would refuse to make any comment as to a reason for the demotion, but whispers would travel that Serris had perhaps learned something he shouldn't have, and being given a life-threatening job while also not being removed from the College entirely would allow him to be observed, and perhaps even taken out of the picture.
Of course, those were merely rumors. Surely there was nothing that nefarious going on within the walls of the hallowed College, right?
