For writers who maybe don't have the time or desire to commit to the full NaNoWriMo challenge (50,000 words in a month) we'll be hosting weekly challenges! These challenges are designed to be fun while also stretching your writing muscles. Feel free to participate in as many of them as you like.
WEEK 1 Challenge: "The Short And the Long"
The point of this exercise is to stretch your limitations of writing both in creativity and expansion of detail, action, scenery, and characterization, and then to stretch your ability to withdraw those same limitations into brevity.
Part 1: Take one of your recent posts and re-write it, expanding on every aspect you feel compelled to. Your goal is stretch that post from it's original length and breadth to 1,000 words. If your post is already at 1,000 words - double it's current total length for your new goal.
Part 2: Take that same post and hone it down to only the pieces that matter most. Rewrite it in no more than 250 words. If your post is already at 250 words, cut it down by half.
